CC Resolution No. 22-062 calling a General Municipal Election on Nov. 8, 2022 to fill three City Council seatsRESOLUTION NO. 22-062 A RESOLUTION OF THE CUPERTINO CITY COUNCIL CALLING FOR A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 8, 2022 TO FILL THREE CITY COUNCIL SEATS, REQUESTING CONSOLIDATION WITH OTHER STATEWIDE ELECTIONS, AND REQUESTING THAT THE REGISTRAR OF VOTERS CONDUCT THE ELECTION AND CANVASS THE VOTES WHEREAS, Tuesday, November 8, 2022, is the date set by law for the election of Councilmembers and for any City measure(s); and WHEREAS, the City Clerk is enjoined by law to take all steps necessary for the holding of said election; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Cupertino: 1. A General Municipal Election is called for Tuesday, November 8, 2022, to fill three at-large City Council seats for full four-year terms (Elections Code (EC) Sections 10597 - 10508). These seats are now occupied by Mayor Darcy Paul, Vice Mayor Liang Chao, and Councilmember Jon Willey. 2. Pursuant to EC Section 10403, the City of Cupertino requests that said election be consolidated with other Statewide elections and acknowledges that the consolidated election will be held and conducted in the manner prescribed in EC Section 10418. 3. The City of Cupertino requests that the Registrar of Voters of Santa Clara County conduct the elections and canvass the returns. The Registrar shall be reimbursed for all costs incurred by said services. 4. A current map showing the boundaries of the district (City) and the boundaries of any divisions of the district was submitted to the Registrar of Voters on December 14, 2021, at least 125 days prior to the day fixed for the general district election (EC §10522). 5. Each candidate’s Statement of Qualifications shall be limited to a maximum of 200 words. The cost of printing, translating, and distributing said statements shall be borne by the candidates who file such statements. Each candidate who files such Resolution No. 22-062 Page 2 a statement shall be required to pay in advance his or her pro rata share of the estimated costs of printing, handling, and mailing said candidate statement, such estimated costs to be determined by the Registrar of Voters (EC §13307). 6. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to certify to the adoption of this resolution and to transmit a copy hereof so certified to the Registrar of Voters and to the Board of Supervisors of Santa Clara County. 7. The City Clerk is authorized and directed to publish a notice of election within the time and in the manner prescribed in EC Division 12, Chapter 2 (commencing with Section 12101).
