CC 04-26-2022 (Special Meeting) APPROVED MINUTES CUPERTINO CITY COUNCIL Tuesday, April 26, 2022 SPECIAL MEETING At 7:00 p.m., Mayor Darcy Paul called the Special City Council Meeting to order in the Cupertino Community Hall Council Chamber, 10350 Torre Avenue. ROLL CALL Present: Mayor Darcy Paul, Vice Mayor Liang Chao, and Councilmembers Kitty Moore, Hung Wei (attended via teleconference) and Jon Robert Willey. Absent: None. COMMISSION INTERVIEWS 1. Subject: Interview applicants for the unexpected Bicycle Pedestrian Commission vacancy Recommended Action: Conduct interviews and make appointment to the Bicycle Pedestrian Commission with a term ending January 30, 2025 and make appointments for any alternates Council conducted interviews for the Bicycle Pedestrian Commission. Councilmembers asked questions and made comments. Council unanimously consented to forego the scheduled break and interview candidates who had arrived early. Council recessed from 8:30 p.m. to 8:43 p.m. Council continued conducting interviews. Council conducted straw poll rounds for consensus on their top three candidates. Council unanimously consented to vote for their top three candidates and assign points Page 2 City Council Minutes April 26, 2022 to each, with the top candidate scoring three points, the second candidate scoring two points, and the third scoring one point. The points scoring tally was as follows: Grace John: Moore (1), Wei (3), Willey (3), Chao (1), Paul (3) = 11 points Fari Aberg: Moore (2), Wei (1), Willey (2), Chao (3), Paul (2) = 10 points Richard Railton: Moore (3), Wei (2), Willey (1), Paul (1) = 7 points Ravi Kumar: Chao (2) = 2 points Moore moved and Chao seconded to appoint Grace John to the Bicycle Pedestrian Commission with a term ending January 30, 2025; and appointed Fari Aberg as 1st Alternate and Richard Railton as 2nd Alternate. Paul made a friendly amendment to direct staff to inform all applicants that there will be three Bicycle Pedestrian Commission terms expiring on January 30, 2023 and to encourage them to apply during the annual recruitment cycle if they are interested. (Moore and Chao accepted the friendly amendment). The amended motion carried unanimously.
