Dear Mr. Proctor:
At your request I have reviewed the roof structure of the subject property t find if it is
able to resist the additional loads generated by a new tile roofing weighi g 7.2 psf.
that will replace the existing roofing and to provide the upgrade information, if
necessary. C22
The existing roof structure over the garage is construct O WA l 6 me Iu actured

acceptable.
The existing roof structure over the attic is built with 2x6 rafters @ 24" o.c. spanning
less than 11ft.(?) and with 2x6 purlins spanning maximum 1 Oft.This portior of the roof
will be acceptable if the following improvements are implemented:
• The purlins spanning between 6ft. and 7.5ft. are doubled with 2x6;
• The purlins spanning between 7.5ft. and 9ft. are doubled with 2x8;
• The purlins spanning.over Gift. are doubled with 2x10;
• Since there are portions difficult to inspect, it is possible to h ive rafters
spanning more than 11 ft. Double these rafters with 2x6s;
• The doubled members shall be nailed together with 10d @ 8";
• Install A35 clip angles at the rafter to valley connections.
The existing roof structure over the master bedroom has sloped ceiling is constructed
with 2x6 rafters @ 24" o.c. spanning less'than 11 ft. and with a 6x10 beaspanning
14ft. This portion of the roof is acceptable.
If any of the elements described above differ from the actual field co ditions or
present any flaws, the engineer must be contacted for further instruction .

Very Important: The new members must be installed after the old roofing is removed
and before the new roofing is brought on the roof.
If the above upgrade measures are implemented the roof structure is able t resist the
additional loads.
Due to the vibrations generated during the new roofing installation, hair line cracks in
the existing ceiling and walls may appear. These cracks may be related, also, to the
soil condition or to the hidden, minor flaws in the construction. Usually, these cracks
are cosmetic, do not have a structural significance and do not induce any lie hazards.
The opinions contained in this report are based on a limited walk through and visual
observation of the premises. Hidden conditions, lack of available documents for our
review,the absence of specific knowledge of strength of the existing materia Is and lack

1. Prior to permit issuance,you must agree to comply with 1997 UBC Standards
and manufacturers specifications on re-roofing.
2. New roof coverings shall not be applied without first obtaining all inspection
and written approval from the building inspector. A final inspection and
approval shall be obtained from the building inspector when the re-roofing
is completed.
3. All roofs shall be inspected prior to any roofing installation.
4. To receive a final sign off from the City, the following steps are
required:
1) Pre-inspection and/or tear off approval.
2) In-progress inspection approval.
3) Final inspection approval.
