21. Pavement RestorationCUPERTiNO PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT Summary AGENDA ITEM AGENDA DATE July 7, 2009 SUBJECT AND ISSUE Review bids and award the contract for Pavement Restoration, Project No. 2009-03, to G. Bortolotto & Co., Inc., in the amount of $198,876.00, and approve a construction contingency of $20,000.00 to cover any unforeseen work required to complete the project, for a total of $218,876.00. BACKGROUND The Pavement Restoration project has been budgeted in the Five Year Capital Improvements Program for Pavement Management. This ar.~nua1 project is programmed to make more significant repairs of specific areas of pavement f ailure. Typically, the work involves cutting out and removing areas of failed pavement, recompa+~ting the underlying material and reconstructing the removed areas with new asphalt pavement. - On June 23, 2009, the City received bids for Pavement Restoration, Project No. 2009-03. Due to the large number of pavement projects bidding regionally, the City received only one bid, from G. Bortolloto & Co., Inc, in the amount of $ 198,876.00. This bid is reasonable as it is under the engineer's estimate of $ 200,040.00. Staff recommends award of the contract to G. Bortolloto & Co., Inc. The City will have additional pavement management projects out to bid, which staff will request Council to award at subsequent meetings. Bortolloto & Co., Inc $ 198,876.00 21-1 FISCAL IMPACT This action would require expenditure from the approved Five Year Capital Improvements Program for Pavement Management, Account No. 270-9450-9300, in the amount of $198,876.00, and additional expenditures thereafter up to the amount of $24,000.00 for additional work as approved by change order, for a total of $218,876.00.
