ROLL CALL Present: Commissioners: Brianna Su, Chelsea Lau, Harly Liu, Anushree Misra, Jonathan Gao, Vinay Prakash, Rusheel Deshmukh (arrived at the meeting at 6:07 p.m.), Saanvi Halambi, Sumedha Kumar. Absent: None. CEREMONIAL MATTERS AND PRESENTATIONS 1. Subject: Swearing-in Ceremony for Incoming 2025-2027 Teen Commissioners Recommended Action: Swear in the five incoming Teen Commissioners for the 2025-2027 term. Deputy City Clerk Lauren Sapudar swore in the new Commissioners. Commissioner Deshmukh arrived late and was not sworn in. 2. Subject: Teen Commission Orientation Recommended Action: Receive an overview of the Commissioner's Handbook from City Clerk. Deputy City Clerk Lauren Sapudar gave a presentation. Recreation Manager Sonya Lee opened the public comment period, and seeing no one, closed the public comment period. 3. Subject: Teen Organizations Presentation Recommended Action: Receive a presentation on Teen Commission, Youth Activity Board (YAB), and Recreation Event Volunteers (REV) from Recreation Coordinator, Robert Kaufman. STAFF AND COMMISSION REPORTS Recreation Coordinator Robert Kaufman introduced himself and discussed recent and upcoming community events, including the Pooch Plunge, Fall Festival, Diwali, and Cherry Blossom Festival. He highlighted a teen movie night on September 26, Bike Fest on September 27, and the Monster Mash Halloween event on October 25. Kaufman noted the REV program is restarting and growing rapidly, with opportunities for teens to serve as speakers and MCs at events. He also noted that the Teen Speaker Series will be held on Saturdays in November, and a Spelling Bee is planned for January 31, with commissioners serving as moderators and judges.
