Good evening Housing Commissioners, I am Alaina Purcell Schroeder, Development Director of Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley. Thank you for your support, not only this past year through the allocation of CDBG funds, but for the past 20years—demonstrating your commitment to preserving Cupertino’s affordable housing stock by investing in critical home repairs and safety modifications. Each repair project we undertake is not merely a construction effort; it is a life-changing intervention that prevents displacement, improves health outcomes, increases neighborhood stability, and restores hope. Our clients live in unsafe conditions—facing broken plumbing, inaccessible entryways, failing roofs, and outdated electrical systems. These are not cosmetic issues. They are urgent health and safety hazards, reducing the risk of homelessness, illness, or injury. And the cost of preserving these existing, naturally occurring affordable housing options is far less than building new. Your support of the work of Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley aligns with the goal of your Consolidated plan to preserve the existing affordable housing. Thank you for entrusting us as partners in meeting that goal. This past year, we completed 60repairs on 6 homes, directly impacting the lives of 12 Cupertinoresidents. We look forward to our continued partnership in the years to come as we strive to keep Cupertino residents safe and healthy in their home.
