You asked that I evaluate impacts from construction of parking lot spaces where trees#349, 350,
and 351 are currently located. You asked that I prepare a letter summarizing my assessment and
recommendations.
Past Tree Conditions and Recommendations
Trees#349, 350, and 351 were protected, mature Monterey pines ranging in trunk diameter from
16 inches to 19 inches. In our February 2020 Arborist Report, pines#349 and 351 were rated in
poor condition with thin crowns. Pine#350 was in fair condition with good form and fair structure.
We had also recommended the preservation of Monterey pines#350-#351 as they were
previously outside the work area and the removal of#349 due to its poor condition and its
location where a new trash enclosure was proposed.
Evaluation of Impacts and Recommendations
To evaluate impacts and make recommendations, I reviewed an annotated screenshot of Sheet
C3.4 (comment#6)on the Plan Review#1 Comments (dated 3-16-2022, see Screenshot 1). The
plans show parking lot spaces planned where trees#349, 350, and 351 are currently located.
Impacts to the trees from this proposed work will be fatal. In addition, the trees are not suitable
candidates for transplantation given their large size and their fair to poor conditions. Therefore I
recommend the removal of trees#349, 350, and 351 due to conflict with proposed parking lot
construction.
