EDC 07-20-05 City of Cupertino Economic Development Committee Regular Meeting July 20, 2005 1. CALL TO ORDER At 9: I 0 a.m. Car01 Atwood called the meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall, Conference Room A, 10300 Torre A venue, Cupertino. 2. ROLL CALL City Staff: Carol Atwood, David Knapp, Steve Piasecki, Ralph Qualls Chamber: Mark McKenna, Shawna Holmes Council: Sandra James, Richard Lowenthal Planning Commission: Marty Miller Absent: Christine Giusiana, Jack Hubby, Angela Chen Guests: Gilbert Wong 3. NEW BUSINESS A. Promote Available Meeting Spaces in Cupertino Shawna Holmes stated that there could be a minimum marketing level at the Chamber and the City. Mark McKenna expressed interest in handling the project and suggested that a task force be formed to study the project. Richard Lowenthal suggested that there should be someone to spearhead the project. The committee agreed that marketing could be done and Mark volunteered to talk to Maria Streeby from Cypress Hotel regarding her interest in spearheading the project. B. Retail Use to Non-Taxable Use The Planning Commission has been reviewing this item under the Conversion Guidelines. An analysis was done to determine what areas were producing sales tax and discussions have occurred regarding the functionality of obsolete buildings. The Chamber's position is that they don't want the business zoning to go away, but they are willing to address each property on a case-by-case basis. Conversion Guidelines will be on the next Legislative Action Committee agenda so that the policy can be discussed and the Chamber can make a recommendation. Steve Piasecki will attend the meeting. 4. OLD BUSINESS A. Upcoming Development Hearings Sobrato - 100+ Pruneridge, Val1co - 150+ north lot, Taylor Woodrow - old Measurex site and Toll Brothers 300-400 units. July 20, 2005 Economic Development Committee Page 2 B. Key Development Activity Steve Piasecki reviewed the development activity report. Discussion centered on the Taylor Woodrow project. Ralph Qualls updated the committee on the Mary Avenue Bicycle Pedestrian Footbridge project. He indicated that bids were being received and work would begin in September. C.
