SUBJECT AND ISSUE
The Santa Clara County City Selection Committee is seeking candidates for nomination
for appointment to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) Board
and requests the input ofthe Cupertino City Council.
BACKGROUND
The City Council annually appoints members to a variety of intergovernmental agencies
in order to represent the City's interests and to influence policies and regulations of other
agencies. There are some intergovernmental agencies on which Councilmembers serve,
but are appointed by other agencies (i.e., League of California Cities policy committees).
In addition, the Mayor or the Mayor's designee may ITom time to time have a seat on the
Santa Clara County City Selection Committee.
The Santa Clara County City Selection Committee will consider nominations for
appointment to the BAAQMD Board at a meeting on Thursday, April 13, at 6:45 p.m. at
the Sunnyvale City Hall. Members of the City Selection Committee are Mayors or
Mayor's designees ITom each of Santa Clara County's fifteen cities. The members of the
BAAQMD Board are members of San Francisco Bay Area City Councils and County
Boards of Supervisors. Currently, the cities of Santa Clara County are represented by
Councilmember Patrick Kwok of Cupertino and Councilmember Eric Gamer of the City
of Monte Sereno. Santa Clara County is currently represented by Supervisor Liz Kniss.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that City Council discuss the Santa Clara County City Selection
Committee request for assistance in seeking candidates for nomination for appointment to
the Bay Area Air Quality Management District Board, and consider taking appropriate
