05 Professional Turf Management " I Lß~~ J '" ,-- CUPEIQ1NO PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT Summary AGENDA ITEM 5 AGENDA DATE March 7. 2006 SUBJECT AND ISSUE Authorization for the Public Works Director to negotiate and execute a contract amendment with Professional Turf Management for interim maintenance at Blackberry Farm in an amount not to exceed $40,000. BACKGROUND Currently there is one full-time, year-round Maintenance Worker II assigned to maintain the facilities at Blackberry Farm. The incumbent will be on an extended leave following shoulder surgery and follow-up elbow surgery. We are uncertain of when he will be cleared by his physician to return to work and perfonn his regular duties. Because of continuing staffing shortages ITom vacancies, the Public Works Department has no available staff to backfill this position. In May of 2005 the Council awarded a contract to Turf management for golf course maintenance at Blackberry Farm in the amount of $186,720.00. In order to provide for adequate maintenance at Blackberry farm during this absence, staff has approached Turf Management, for assistance. Turf Management is able to provide the necessary interim support at a very favorable rate of$30.00/hr. Staff is proposing that the maintenance work be perfonned at this rate through an extension of the current contract an amount not to exceed $40,000.00 to provide interim maintenance support on an as needed basis until the employee is able to return to duty FISCAL IMPACT Funds in an amount of up to $ 40,000 will be required ITom available funding the budgeted Blackberry Golf Course Fund, Acct. # 560-9940-7014 Printed on Recycled Paper S - I STAFF RECOMMENDATION Approval of an authorization for the Public Works Director to negotiate and execute a contract amendment with Professional Turf Management for interim maintenance at Blackberry Fann in an amount not to exceed $40,000.
