is letterciASAWEVTM previous Arborist letter given for a single pine tree location at 12081
Imperial Ave. in Cupertino. A follow-up site visit was requested to re-evaluate this tree.
The trees' condition looked similar to last year. There were two notable changes. There are a
few branches located in upper canopy that have died and turned brown. This may be due to
natural shedding of branches, mechanical damage, such as a break, or possibly the CA bark
beetle. This branch die-back is not a concern itself, just noted as indicator of possible issues.
The 2nd change observed was some root-pruning that happened close to the trunk. These cuts
were exposed in small trench alongside of the tree and fence. Cuts were sharp and clean and
may heal, but do compromise the tree. These buttress or anchor roots provide stability, food
storage and general water and nutrient uptake.
It is my recommendation that based on poor vigor and root damage this tree be removed and
replaced with a tree or trees that fit better in the landscape.
Sincerely, ---
