Background This report is concerning one(1)tree located at 22938 Cricket Hill Road,Cupertino,CA
Information 95014.The property is known as De Anza Oaks HOA, managed by Grayson Community
Management. For the remainder of the report, De Anza Oaks will be referred to as the
"client" property.
Assignment(any One(1)tree on this property was evaluated and inspected for overall health and safety.
limiting factors) 1. Quercus agrifolia(Coast Live Oak),24"DBH multistem
Observations The oak is mature and confined to a slope between a dwelling and a parking area.
Powerline run overhead and the tree has been trimmed for utility clearance in the past.
Less than 20%of the canopy remains alive, and the foliage is chlorotic and sparse.
Multiple stems originate very low on the trunk at the root collar, which is buried. There
is deep included bark between the major stems, and some stems lean toward the
dwelling with minor strike potential.Armillaria mushroom at the base of the tree.
Please see photos in Attachment 1 for further observations
Testing&Analysis No soil, tree tissue,or other physical testing was performed
Discussion This tree has likely been under severe drought stress for years. It has been topped
before for utility clearance, which can be harmful even to healthy trees.Armillaria
mushrooms indicate active oak root rot, which is incurable and eventually fatal. It is not
clear if Armillaria is the original cause of decline,or a secondary infection following
drought stress. The deep included bark between stems, their union underground, and
the slope at the site increase the likelihood of major trunk failure toward the dwelling.
Recommendation As the tree is declining and cannot be recovered,A Plus Tree recommends removing the
(1)oak in this report.
