Re: 2005 Residential Burglaries in the City Cupertino
Date: December 20, 2005 ertA
Prepared by: Capt. John Hirokawa é I· \~Jí1
The City of Cupertino has experienced an increased number of residential
burglaries during the calendar year 2005, as compared to 2004. To date
(Dec. 20th) there have been 148 residential burglaries in Cupertino. There
were 135 residential burglaries during the 12 months in 2004. This indicates
an approximate 10 percent increase compared to 2004.
A significant number of the burglaries in 2005 have occurred during
dinnertime from 5 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The residents of these burglaries had
stepped out for a few hours.
The residential burglaries in Cupertino have elevated the concerns in our
community. The Sheriff's Office has no major leads regarding these series
of burglaries occurring primarily during dinnertime. The City of Cupertino
may want to consider facilitating a reward for information leading to the
arrest and conviction of any person(s) responsible for these series of
residential burglaries. To help solicit community donations for a reward, the
City may consider offering to match the donations up to $2,500.00 from the
General Fund.
