VTA Board ~ S'.T' 'L'" ~7JI!e Valley Transportation Authority October 27,2005 The Honorable Patrick Kwok Mayor, City of Cupertino . 10300 Torre Avenue /..Y Cupertino, CA 95014-325rt~- DearMaYOr~ The coming year will provide increased challenges and opportunities that the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Board of Directors Board must address in order to sustain and improve the county's transportation system, while maintaining the trust and support of the public and the local governments of Santa Clara County. As the current Board Chair, 1 am seeking your cooperation and active involvement in working together in 2006. Section 2-11 of the VTA Administrative Code stipulates that: "The Board of Directors consists of 12 voting members who are appointed by their respective appointing agencies as provided in Public Utility Code Section 10060 on the basis of appointee's expertise, experience or knowledge relative to transportation issues." Pursuant to the VTA Administrative Code Section 2-13, "City and County Groupings; selection of Directors and Alternates" and Section 2-14, "Selection of Directors and alternates by city groupings", and the rotation agreements developed by each grouping, we are requesting you to rnake or reaffirm your appointment ofto the VTA Board of Directors. Based on the current rotation schedule, the City of Cupertino is scheduled to appoint a Director to the VT A Board of Directors for a two year term, 2006 and 2007. When making your appointments to the Board, please consider the following: · Board meetings are generally held on the first Thursday of each month from at 5 :30 p.m. at the Board of Supervisors Chambers, 70 West Hedding Street, San Jose, CA 95110. Regular attendance of members is expected and is critical to the functioning of the Board as a body that is representative of all local governments in the county. · Each Director shall be appointed by VT A Board action to one of three Board Standing Committees.
