Hung Wei,
I am a Cupertino community member writing to, in the strongest of language and action,
support the construction of affordable housing at the planned N. De Anza site (and frankly,
anywhere else in the city).
I want to thank the staff and council for conducting a study session on a potential partnership
between Cupertino and Santa Clara County, so Measure A funds can be used to acquire land
right here in Cupertino for over 60 units of affordable housing—thanks to the Heart of the City
Plan.
The future of our city and region depends on rare opportunities such as this one. We must
continue to proactively search for meaningful partnerships, so Cupertino and Santa Clara
County can become more attractive areas for ALL of us to live and use. Yes, this includes our
teachers - the reason many of us moved here, and a large part of the reason our houses are
as valuable as they are.
Again, thank you, and I am hopeful that the County and City move forward in this collaborative
process. I will also be making my voice loud and clear to the County before the April 6 County
Board of Supervisors vote.

Jon Wiley,
Hello,
I grew up in Cupertino, and am happy to voice my support for the prospect of having
affordable housing at 10591 N. De Anza Boulevard. While I was lucky my parents had the
means to raise me here, luck and timing should not be the only means to live in our city. Our
city has greater potential to offer more citizens - across more socioeconomic classes - the
chance to make their life here.
I want to thank the staff and council for conducting this study session on a potential
partnership between Cupertino and Santa Clara County. My understanding is this study could
result in Measure A funds being used to acquire land right here in Cupertino for over 60 units
of affordable housing, which is a good step forward in making our city more open than it is
today.
We have an incredible opportunity here. The future of our city and region depends on
opportunities such as this one. I believe the best results from local governance occur when the
familiarity of the community is combined with pooled resources: whether it be from fellow
municipalities, governments, or the expertise of non-profit or private sector actors; together,
we truly can achieve more than we can alone.
I encourage the Council to proactively search for additional, meaningful partnerships and
opportunities to make Cupertino and Santa Clara County inclusive and affordable.
Partnerships like this one will help us meet the upcoming cycle of RHNA, but moreover, they
enable our city to meet the moral obligation we have to face climate change and rectify the
deep inequity the Silicon Valley has come to embody.

Darcy Paul,
I am a Cupertino community member, parent and educator writing to you out of excitement for
the potential of having affordable housing at 10591 N. De Anza Boulevard! Why? Because I
want to see people have the ability to live here, regardless of their socioeconomic class.
I want to thank the staff and council for conducting a study session on a potential partnership

This land was once home to Outback Steakhouse, and while culinary options will always be
missed, we have an incredible opportunity right here.
The future of our city and region depends on rare opportunities such as this one. We must
continue to proactively search for meaningful partnerships, so Cupertino and Santa Clara
County can become more inclusive and affordable. This is the only way we will be able to even
approach our 4,000+ RHNA targets for the upcoming cycle.

housing at 10591 N. De Anza Boulevard! Why? Because I want to see people have the ability
to live here, regardless of their socioeconomic class.
I want to thank the staff and council for conducting a study session on a potential partnership
between Cupertino and Santa Clara County, so Measure A funds can be used to acquire land
right here in Cupertino for over 60 units of affordable housing—due to the Heart of the City
Plan.
Again, thank you, and I am hopeful that the County and City move forward in this collaborative
process. I will also be making my voice loud and clear to the County before the April 6 County
Board of Supervisors vote.

having affordable housing at 10591 N. De Anza Boulevard! Why? Because I want to see
people have the ability to live here, regardless of their socioeconomic class.
I want to thank the staff and council for conducting a study session on a potential partnership
between Cupertino and Santa Clara County, so Measure A funds can be used to acquire land
right here in Cupertino for over 60 units of affordable housing—due to the Heart of the City
Plan.
Again, thank you, and I am hopeful that the County and City move forward in this collaborative
process. I will also be making my voice loud and clear to the County before the April 6 County
Board of Supervisors vote.

I am a Cupertino community member writing to you out of excitement for the potential of
having affordable housing at 10591 N.
Plan.

Plan.
Again, thank you, and I am hopeful that the County and City move forward in this collaborative
process. I will also be making my voice loud and clear to the County before the April 6 County
Board of Supervisors vote.

The future of our city and region depends on rare opportunities such as this one. We must
continue to proactively search for meaningful partnerships, so Cupertino and Santa Clara
County can become more inclusive and affordable. I’m excited for the opportunity to allow
more people, who otherwise couldn't afford to be in Cupertino, contribute to the city’s overall
culture and diverse identity! This is the only way we will be able to even approach our 4,000+
RHNA targets for the upcoming cycle.
Thank you!

Liang Chao,
I am a Cupertino community member writing to you in excitement for the potential of having
affordable housing at 10591 N. De Anza Boulevard! Why? Because I want to see people have
the ability to live here, regardless of their socioeconomic class.
I want to thank the staff and council for conducting a study session on a potential partnership
between Cupertino and Santa Clara County, so Measure A funds can be used to acquire land
right here in Cupertino for over 60 units of affordable housing—due to the Heart of the City
Plan.

Subject: Out Back Restaurant Steak House Site at 10591 N. De Anza Blvd.
Dear City Council:
I am very concerned with the closure of the Outback Steak House Restaurant
and building housing on this site.
The Out Back Restaurant has been at the 1091 N. De Anza Blvd. site for many
years. It is a well loved well frequented large family restaurant. It provides a menu
that many members from a single family can enjoy and it employs many people.
My family and I went to the Outback many times and it is a wonderful place
to dine and enjoy family celebrations. The restaurant staff are very nice and
helpful.
I do not think clsoing the restaurant is a good idea, especially now that the County is
in the red tier and people can begin dining in the restaurants again. The Outback should
be opening back up again and welcoming diners. It should be providing jobs for worksers
who need re-employment after the Pandemic. Many family restaurants have closed in the
area and the Outback is a very important large family restaurant that is big enough to handle
graduation, engagement, retirement and family birthday parties.
My family has been going to the Outback for many years and also to the dining establishment
that was there before.
This is not a good location for housing. The busy freeway is nearby and there are no services
in the area,. and now there will be one less restaurant.
Please do not let this valuable restaurant close. The additional retail in the shopping
center would be lost also. This whole area is a bad location for housing, especially
supportive housing as there are little or few supportive services nearby.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Jennifer Griffin
Family member lived in Cupertino since 1950.

Dear City Council:
What sort of supportive services will the folks the County is intending to house
at the Outback Restaurant on De Anza Blvd, in Cupertino need?
There are very few supportive services in this area. Will these folks need
on-going medical treatment? Where would these folks receive medical
treatment?
Thank you.

Mayor Paul & Members of the City Council:
Thank you for taking the time to examine this issue today. County acquisition of the commercial site at 10591 N. De Anza
Boulevard represents a serendipitous opportunity to create significant, much‐needed, new supportive and affordable
housing right here in Cupertino. The site provides excellent access to services and transit, and to the spectacular
opportunities our community affords its residents. Producing these new homes here would make a substantial dent in
our Regional Housing Needs Allocation‐‐all without having to dip into Cupertino's own Affordable Housing Fund.
Moreover, in this instance, you'd have the chance to work collaboratively with the County in guiding the development
path for these new homes.
I therefore urge you to support the County's acquisition of this site for new affordable housing. Let's not miss this
opportunity.
Thank you for your consideration,
J.R. Fruen
Cupertino resident

Dear City Council:
What is the County's plan is if this supportive service housing
complex at the Outback Restaurant attracts homeless people to the upcoming
Junipero Serra Trail by the 280 frontage. These homeless folks may be attracted
to be near the supportive services.
Thank you.
