The Director reports his decision to the City Council and Planning Commission in time to allow any Councilmember or Planning Commissioner to appeal the decision within fourteen (14) days of the decision. Application Application 7-U-81 (M), Symantec, 10201 Torre Avenue Description Minor modification to approved landscaping plan to remove two pine trees at an existing office site. Discussion As provided in the enclosed arborist report and site plan, 2 pine trees are proposed for removal. They are located on the north side of the parking lot of the existing Symantec building. The arborist states that the problems are insufficient growing space and boring insects and recommends removal. The trees are large and provide important screening between the apartments to the north and the Symantec site. Because of the arborist's recommendation, staff supports the trees' removal, but will require replacement trees. The arborist recommends replanting three trees, which are Tristania Conferta, "Brisbane Box." They are evergreen, medium to large, moderate to fast growing, and resemble a madrone. He feels it is appropriate for a parking lot and will provide adequate screening between the apartments and the Symantec building. Action The Director approves the removal of the trees, with the following condition: Three Tristania Conferta, 24" box, shall be planted in the parking island, as shown on the site plan.
