approxi=ately 500 ft_ easterly of intersection of Stevens Creek Boulevard and
North De An:a'Boulevard. The site consists` of approximately 3/10 of 3 acre

Discussion
The use permit sought by the applicant follows the expirarion in 1973 of a
Similar permit for the machine shr.p which operates as a separate busiaess ad -a -
cent, to the auto parts house on the site. The original permit was granted at
the Planning Commission meeting of April 22, 1968, and ::as approved subject to
the following conditions:
1. No engines to be removed or replaced frc-s the vehicles on the premises.
:this use permit will terminate in five years and new application ust'
be submitted at that time if the -applicant's wish to continue ,the
operation. (References made to application C-683_
At the time of the original use permit application, the staff:. expressed several
concern which are still equally cogent to the present situation. First, there

• At the time that the original use permit was approved, the relative isolation
of the machine shop activity from intensely -used land areas lent additional
credence to the desirabilit-y of thIs operation. The subject site was surrounded
oy vacant lands. 3oday, however, the.surround-ag area has developed; n a
=ariety of residential and non-residential uses. Given the degree of develop-
ment in the area and the anticipated pressure for development of the re=aiz.ng
vacant parcels along Stevens"C_eek Boulevard, the ?Ianning Camcission may elect
to approve the subject application and reserve the right to review -tee pe--=it
