To whom iltsmay concern,
This letter intends to address four(4)hazardous Eucalyptus sideroxylon. (Red Ironbark)located along the
east parking lot planting strip on the 20650 Valley Green Drive property in Cupertino,California. Please
see Exhibit 1.1 for the relative locations of the subject trees indicated as white/red dots, and for the
locations of the replacement trees. The trees have an elevated hazard risk and will need to be removed
and replaced.
Tree 1 is 60-feet tall and 22-inches in diameter at 4.5-feet above grade. Tree 2 is 60-feet tall and 24-
inches in diameter at 4.5-feet above grade. Tree 3 is 60-feet tall and 24-inches in diameter at 4.5-feet
above grade. Tree 4 is 60-feet tall and 23-inches in diameter at 4.5-feet above grade.
The subject trees are mature eucalyptus that have become maintenance problems and hazardous.
Branches are shed continually of various sizes. Within the last winter season, several large branches
dropped that could have crushed a pedestrian or vehicles.
Their current growing space is between two properties, and the subject trees hang over both the subject
property and the neighboring property to the east. Both parking lots are frequently occupied by
pedestrians and vehicles. Branch failure has the potential to result in significant property damage and
severe personal injury. I recommend these trees be removed prior to fall/winter because the risk of large
branch failure in less than 1 year is likely.
The tree will require replacement, selected by the Apple arborist to ensure optimal structure, health, and
no girdling roots. The selected tree will then be trained from an early age as needed to optimize branching
structure, extending the aesthetically and structurally sound lifespan of the tree. The proposed
replacements are four(4)standard 36-inch box Quercus lobata(Valley Oak)in the same locations as the
removals.
Please review this information and contact me with any questions or concerns regarding the information
provided in this letter.
Sincerely,
Samuel Oakley
