As members of the County Planning Commission, we realize the budget problems the County faces and that the same problems confront all our cities. However, we feel this proposal goes beyond prudence. Since the passage of Proposition 13 three years ago, the County Planning Department has cut its staff over 40%. To cut the remaining.staff 70% is too much. • The-proposed cut will make it impossible for the County to provide the data and technical back up services to city planning programs and will make even more difficult the coordination of programs and policies between the cities and the County, a process which is rarely easy. The Board has scheduled Monday, June 22, to begin hearings on the County budget proposals. Your Commission may wish to send a letter to the Board urging a more reasonable approach to the Planning budget. Very truly yours, Nancy Alexander Peg Muscato Robert Escobar ,i • Joseph L.
