MILL CALL Present Members: Chairman Gong, Hoxsie, Lim, Weber, and Jackson Staff Present: Tom Robillard, Planner II POSTREEMENTS/ADJUSDIENTS TO THE AGENDA 2. Application ASAC 17-U-90 - Chevron Research/Technology Co. - Applicant request continuance to the meeting of October 8, 1990 on a 4-0 vote. The application was continued to the meeting of October 8, 1990. WRT TFN AND VEAL 034DIITIICATICN None. INFORMAL REVIEW (Continued from September 10, 1990 ASAC Meeting) 1. Application ASAC 14-U-90 - Terry Brown Construction - Requesting early review of a use permit to construct four single family dwellings in a Planned Development Zone of the Monta Vista area. Site is located at the northeast corner of Lomita Avenue and Orange Avenue. Tom Robillard reviewed the staff comments noting staff's concerns with repetitious architecture for each building. Terry Brawn, of Terry Brawn Construction, explained that he would be willingto modify each of thefour units in order to provide fY proposed also answered questions of the scone architectural difference. He Committee. Committee Member Hoxsie expressed concerns with the width of each lot. He also noted that the only portion of the house visible from the street were the garage doors. He suggested that the building's setback be staggered. Chairman Gong concurred with Committee Member Hoxsie the suggestion of reversing the floor plan on Lot 2 in order to provide more setback to Lots 3 and 4. Application ASAC 31-U-88 - Incas Dealership Requesting review and approval of a Planned Development sign program for an office building located at 19930 Stevens Creek Boulevard, southwest corner of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Finch Avenue. Tam Robillard reviewed the staff comments noting that ASAC previously provided direction to the applicantl'for his sign program. This application was the formal approvallof the sign program. He stated staff's concerns with the amount of square footage of the signs and the number of signs facing Stevens Creek Boulevard. Craig Maynard, Cal Neon Signs, explained the reasons why three signs were needed and explained the location of each sign. Tbm Mackin, Lucas Dealership, explained Chairman Gong question regarding the layout of the building and the need for three signs. Committee Member Lim stated that he thought three signs were okay, but should be scaled down to meet the 70% rule. Ca mittee Member Jackson concurred with Committee Member Limb' Chairman Gong expressed concern about the readability of the sign if the sign was reduced in size. Committee Member Hoxsie stated that 18 inch high letters were more than sufficient and only one auto1111 "Autocorp" sign next to Finch Avenue was necessary. 1� p u DECISION: On a 3-2 vote with Cammittee Member Hoxsie and Wehar dissenting. Application ASAC 31-U-88 was approved with Condition 10 deleted, Finding 1 modified, and Finding 2 -•.•=• to read: Finding 1 - The sign program is consistent with Title 17, Section 17.24.270 of the Cupertino Municipal Code. Finding 2 - Due to the lot configuration and architectural style, three signs are required for safe visibility. 4. Application ASAC 51,918.1 - On-Line Construction Corp. Requesting review and approval for a new ATM machine at an existing shopping center located at the southwest corner of North De Anza Boulevard and Hcanestead Road. Tan Robillard reviewed the staff comments noting that comments from the Sheriff's Crime Prevention Unit were still not available. Dave Wagner, On-Line Construction, and J. D. Vanderlaan, owners representative, answered questions of the Cnittee*embers. t . Committee Member Weber expressed concerns for safety of people using the machine and traffic circulation, particularly people parking their cars in the traffic lane to use the machine. DECISION: On a 5-0 vote application ASAC 51,918.1 was approved according to the findings and conditions contained in the Model Resolution. ANAL OF MINUrES 5. Minutes of the regular ASAC meeting of September 10, 1990 were approved on a 2-1 vote with Committee Member Weber voting no. The minutes of the regular meting of September 10, 1990 were approved as submitted. COMMITTEE REPORTS The Committee discussed possible uneasiness of the community towards ASAC's approval of signs. STAFF . Tom Robillard reviewed the City Council decisions on previous ASAC applications.
