AGENDA DATE December 12, 198
Referral from Architectural and Site Approval Committee regarding City
Council policy on the use of metal roofing material.
Councilmember Kcppel's concern,.,, about metal roofed structures was
discussed by ASAC at their m0eting,8± November 14, 1988. The Committee
I.t,W,, irl'j f,
concluded that future definl 1 the issue would be helpful in
0
fulfilling their advisory fuh&-16ht'' . ,, ,I
Are,,. petal roofs ..objectionable in.terms of color, surface texture
'16 otter o3-cwpatibility with-th ,' hrdhitectural materials?
Are metal roofed building
concentrated in any specific
geographic location?
- Do metal roofed structures constrain or expand architectural
creativity?
The Committee felt that they could not easily isolate discussion of a
single type of material from its application in a wider context. In
order to evaluate the proper use of any material or architectural
style, the Committee has suggested that comprehensive design
guidelines similar to, but more ;precise than those appearing in the
land Use/Commmity Character :,.Element of the General Plan should be
devised. The concept of thd='grqater use of design guidelines is being
evaluated in the context 'of;,the study regarding the use by a Zoning
Administrator. 41
