CONSENT CALENDAR
ITEM 1) (Formal Review) ASAC 51,824.1 - Apple Computer
Requesting approval of modifications to an existing sign program
for various buildings located within Apple's north, south and west
campus districts.
Enclosures:

Comments:
1) The applicant did not submit reductions of the plans which
indicate proposed locations for new signs. Large exhibits and
photographs will be available at the meeting. The signs will
• be located on the building face near the entrance to Apple
facilities within the following areas:
a. North Campus District: Alves Drive, Bandley Drive, N.
DeAnza Boulevard, Lazaneo Drive, Marian Avenue, Stevens
Creek Boulevard and Valley Green Drive (26 signs total).
b. South Campus District: Stevens Creek Boulevard, Torre
Avenue and Saratoga -Sunnyvale Road (3 signs total).
C. West Campus District: Bubb Road (6 signs total).
2) The 'signs will resemble employee badges, and are relatively
small (see sign detail). Many of the locations are not
visible from nearby roadways. Staff has no concerns with the
proposal.
ITEM 2) Application ASAC 11--U-88 Richard Scott
Requesting informal review of architecture and landscaping for a
cabinet shop and warehouse to be located on the east side of
Imperial Avenue between Stevens Creek Boulevard and Granada
Avenue.

Comments:
1) On November 14, 1988, the Committee approved the landscape plan
and made recommendations in regards to the proposed building.
The revised plan has been submitted in response to the
Committee's recommendations.

Requesting informal review of final building colors and
landscaping for two single family residences located on the north
side of Granada Avenue, approximately 300 feet east of Byrne
Avenue.

ITEM 4) Application ASAC 5i,822.1 - Mid -way Sign (Portal Plaza Center)
Requesting approval of modifications to a Planned Development
Sign Program, including a freestanding sign and color palette
for a multi -tenant retail complex located on the north side of
Stevens Creek Boulevard between Portal Avenue and Perimeter Road.

Comments:
1) This item was approved in part by the Committee on November
14, 1988.
2) Color palette to be presented at hearing. Face colors
proposed in addition to yellow (previously approved), red,
orange, blue, ivory and white.
3) Freestanding Signs
- Height has been reduced to 8 feet, 6 inches (previously 20
feet) .
- Two signs are now proposed (previously one sign).
ITEM 5) Application ASAC.i6'-EXC-88 - Thao Phan:
Requesting approval of an exception from the second story setback
provisions of bidinance 1438/Urgency Ordinance. Property is
located at the northerly terminus of Adriana Avenue.

Comments:
1) The applicant is requesting the following exceptions to the
setback requirements of the Urgency Ordinance:

2) The new residence will be consistent with other dwellings in
the neighborhood and in the R-1 Zone.
3) The unusual triangular shape of the lot results in only one
side yard, which presents a physical hardship, and makes it
difficult to maintain a 30 ft. setback within a single side
yard as opposed to distributing this area between two side
yards as is typical in the R-1 Zone.
Recc mnendation:
Staff recaimnends approval of an exception to the second floor
setback requirement in accordance with the findings in the model
® resolution.
ITEM 6) Application ASAC 17-EXC-88 - Dividend Developments
Requesting approval of an exception from the second story floor
area ratio and setback provisions of Ordinance 1438/Urgency
Ordinance for three proposed single family homes.

1) The applicant is requesting the following exception to the
second story floor area ratio and setback requirements of the
Urgency Ordinance:

2) The three new residences will be consistent with surrounding
homes under construction, and with existing homes in the
neighborhood.

3) The roof slope being maintained over the attic area in
question will result in a more consistent and uniform
to appearance in the roof pitches and the overall architecture.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends approval of an exception to the second floor
area ratio and setback requirements in accordance with the
findings in the model resolution.
