CONSENT CALENDAR ITEM 1) APPLICATION ASAC 51,783.1 -- APPLE COMPUTER (10300 Bubb Road) Requesting approval of a monument sign for an industrial office building on the east side of Bubb Road between Stevens Creek Blvd. and Bubb Road. ASAC Decision Final Unless Appealed O ENCLOSURE: 1) Model Resolution 2) Exhibits F and F-1 of Application ASAC 51,783 COMMENTS: 1) Site is located in a conventional ML light industrial zone and meets the 200 foot rule, thus permitting a freestanding sign. 2) Sign area of 22.5 feet per face is consistent with Section 17.24.220 RECOMMENDATION: Approval of Application ASAC 51,783.1 according to the findings and conditions specified in the attached model resolution. ITEM 2) APPLICATION ASAC 51,785.1 FEDERAL SIGN (Vallco Village Shopping Center) Requesting approval of modified faces for an existing shopping center monument sign, and Exception to Section 17.20.010 of the Sign Code to permit display of an offsite identification device The sign is located on that portion of the Vallco Village complex at the northwest corner of Wolfe Road and Pruneridge Avenue. Proposed changes entail: A) Slight increase in overall face area (approx. 9.5 s.f.) in order to add the decorative oval element which completes the Vallco Village logo. B) Widen the readerboard element to be flush with the edges of the cabinet above and below. C) Increase the number of tenant names on the lower panel to three, including off premises identification of the previousl Hotel to the south. An Exception appears justified as a public convenience since the Pruneridge entry to Vallco Village is also the only public street leading to the Marriott Courtyard hotel. 2) The colors and typography of the amended sign are consistent with the updated display concept for Vallco Village appearing on other street frontage signs serving the complex. Approval of Application ASAC 51,785.1 according to the findings and conditions specified in the attached model resolution. ® INFORMAL REVIEW OF NEW APPLICATIONS: ITEM 3) APPLICATION 45-U-87 -- CARL KARCHER ENTERPRISES Requesting approval of a Use Permit to install and operate a drive up service window and vehicle lane at an existing take out restaurant located at the southeast corner of Homestead Road and Franco Ct. 20680 Homestead Road. ENCLOSURES: 1) Exhibit A 1st Rev. of Use Permit 48-U-87 2) Exhibits A, B and Info. of Application 45-U-87 1) A solid curb and protective railing or other device should be added to prevent vehicle overhang into the stacking lane from immediately adjoining parking spaces on the south edge of the site. 2) The proposed drive -up window will be installed with trim and materials replicating that of the existing building, and presents no concern. 3) The proposed drive -up lane will displace six specimen -scale trees which have matured since the site was originally constructed. In lieu of the five 15 g.c. replacements indicated on the site plan, staff suggest that the ® applicant retain an arborist to investigate relocation of the at least a few of the trees on site, or to provide specimen scale replacements. ASAC STAFF SUMMARY COMMENTS -- MEETING OF MAY 9, 1988 PAGE -3- • ITEM 4) APPLICATION ASAC 51,782.1 -- MEASUREX CORP Requesting non -binding, informational review of site, architecture and landscaping for a proposed 40,000 s.f. expansion to an industrial office building located on the northwest corner of Bubb and McClellan Roads. 1 Results Way. ENCLOSURE: 1) Exhibits A, A-1, B, B-1, B-2, B-3, L and Info.of Application ASAC 51,782.1 1) Possible concern about contrast in materials between the richly detailed addition and the relatively innocuous existing buildings. 2) ERC raised concern about proposed siting of the structure and loss of open area near the street intersection. Suggested that the addition be relocated to the space north of building A now covered by parking, with appropriate modifications to the driveway system. FORMAL REVIEW: ITEM 5) APPLICATION ASAC 51.712.11 -- RICARDO FRATARCANGELI: Requesting approval of modifications to a previously approved plan for an • addition to a duplex located on the west side of Lockwood Drive, approximately 225 feet south of Voss Avenue. 10417 Lockwood Drive, Exhibits A and B of Application ASAC 51,712.1 COMMENTS: The duplex was previously approved by ASAC with a height of 24-6% The structure is nearly complete and measures approximately 30 feet in height. Staff will present further comments at Monday's meeting. ITEM 6) APPLICATION ASAC 51.784.1 -- TANDEM COMPUTER (AKAGI DESIGN): Requesting approval of signs to be placed on a bridge over Calabazas Creek. Bridge located between 19191 and 19333 Vallco Parkway. The curch is located on the North side of Bollinger Road between Johnson Avenue and Tantau Avenue. 5825 Bollinger Road. ENCLOSURE: 1) Page 3, Resolution No. 4014 2) Exhibits A, L, L-1, Info 6 and 7 of 51-U-87 COMMENTS: 1) Condition 7 of Resolution 4014 specifies aspects of landscaping for special attention; A) Trees should be added to the central planter framing the walkway between the church and school area (redwood arbor proposed instead) B) Landscaped screening of new parking area facing Carver drive is inadequate. C) Irrigation plans satisfactory (Exhibit.
