MEETING HELD IN CONFERENCE ROOM A, CITY HALL, AT 10300 TORRE AVENUE, CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM by Chairman Miller ROLL CALL Present Members: Gong, Jackson, Mann, Chairman Miller Absent Members: Hoxsie Staff Present: Suzanne Gyorey, Planner I CONSENT CALENDAR ITEM 1) (FORMAL REVIEW) APPLICATION ASAC 51,614.2 - CAL -COAST SIGN COMPANY (ALLSTATE) Requesting approval of a wall mounted sign for an existing office building located on the south side of Homestead Road, west of Stelling Road (21040 Homestead Road). A representative from Cal -Coast Sign Company was present for this item. • ISSUES: - none DECISION: On a 4-0 vote, ASAC 51,614.2 was approved per the findings and conditions contained within the model resolution. ITEM 2) (FORMAL REVIEW) APPLICATION ASAC 51.866.1 - CAL -NEON. SIGNS (HAMASUSHI RESTAURANT) Requesting approval of a wall mounted sign for a restaurant building located on the south side of Stevens Creek Boulevard, west of Blaney Avenue. Craig Maynard from Cal -Neon Signs and Ron Woods, contractor for the Hamasushi Restaurant, were present for this item. Joe Zavala was present for this item. ISSUES: - none DECISION: I. On a 4-0 vote, ASAC 51,867.1 was forwarded to the City Council with a recommendation for approved per the findings and conditions contained within the model resolution. ITEM 4) (FORMAL REVIEW) APP .iCATION ASAC 9- T-75 - HOME FEDERAL. SAVINGS Requesting approval of an 88 square foot addition to an existing Savings & ;Loan located on the south side of Stevens Creek Boulevard, east of; Miller Avenue. A representative from Home Federal Savings was present for this item. ISSUES: • - none DECISION: On a 4-0 vote, ASAC 9-U-75 1 was approved per the findings and conditions contained within the l model resolution. Saratoga - Sunnyvale Road, south of Rainbow Drive. Karl Coombs, architect, was present for this item. ISSUES: - Size of tree wells between parking spaces CONSENSUS: - Recommend deep root watering for trees - Recommend using plastic liners to encourage roots of- trees to grow down, rather than spreading out ITEM 7) APPLICATION ASAC 19-U-89 .TERRY K L . R Requesting informal review of a Use Permit to construct a 6,500 square foot retail building on the southeast comer of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Stelling Road. Jerry Kler and Linnard Lane, architects, presented the project.and is answered questions from the Committee. ISSUES: - Forms and shapes of proposed architecture - Building setback from street - Amount of landscaping along frontages - Compatibility of proposed building with existing development - Exterior materials and color scheme CONSENSUS: - Would like to see the building set back further from the street. - There is something about the architecture that is disturbing, although it is difficult to pinpoint exactly what the problem is. - The lighter, pastel color scheme is preferred. - Two members prefer wood rather than stucco siding. ITEM 8) APPLICATION ASAC 10-TM-77 REVISED - DICK RANDA T Requesting informal review of landscaping and retaining walls for a hillside residential lot located at the northerly terminus of Regnart Canyon Road. ITEM 9) APPLICATION ASAC 2-U-85 ! H. K. I & T. ARCHITECTS (FORUM LIFE CARE) Requesting informal review of minor changes to architectural detailing for a senior residential project to be constructed at the northerly Iteiminus of Cristo Rey Drive, near Rancho San Antonio Park. George Ivelich, architect, explained the changes that had been made to the elevations. ISSUES: i None CONSENSUS: - Modifications are minor in reliation to the size of the project. - Attractive project, no concerns. ITEM 10) APPL.ICATION ASAC i 86 i - CAL -NEON SIGNS (LUCAS, • DEALERSHIP) Requesting approval of a Planned Development Sign Program for an corporate/auto leasing office building located on the southwest comer of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Finch Avenue. Craig Maynard from Cal -Neon Signs, representing the applicant, was present for this item. i On a 4-0 vote, this item was continued indefinitely at the request of the applicant. At this point, the plans for the building are being revised, and the signs may need; to be changed in order to be compatible. The applicant will request to be put back on the agenda once their plans are finalized. i ITEM 11) APPLICATION ASAC 22-U-88 - HUNTER PROPERTIES (VALLEY GREEN OFFICE BUILDING) Requesting approval of modifications to an approved landscape plan for an existing office building located on the northeast comer of Valley Green Drive and Beardon Avenue. Paul Reed, Reed & Associates, was present for this item. I ISSUES: - Lack of screening from residential area across the street - Size and condition of one tree proposed to be removed • - Size of replacement trees a ASAC Summary Minutes - August 14, 1989 x Page - 5 - it CONSENSUS: On a 4-0 vote, ASAC 22-U-88 was approved per the findings and conditions contained within the model resolution, with condition 10 modified as follows: 10. A minimum of L41L 36 inch box trees shall be planted to replace the Monterey Pines along the street. A minimum 48 inch box specimen tree shall be planted to replace the largest Pine on the interior of the par -king rking lot. near the Beardon Avenue driveway.
