January 9, 1989CITY OF CUPERTINO SUMMARY MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ARCHITECTURAL AND SITE APPROVAL COMMITTEE OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO FOR JANUARY 9, 1989. - MEETING HELD IN CONFERENCE ROOM A, CITY HALL, AT 10300 TORRE AVENUE, CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM by Chairwoman Jackson ROLL CALL Present Members: Gong, Hoxsie, Mann, Miller (arrived at 7:35 PM), Chairwoman Jackson Absent Members: None Staff Present: Suzanne Gyorey, Planner I CONSENT CALENDAR ITEM 1) (FORMAL REVIEW) APPLICATION ASAC 51.827.1 - P. G. & E. Requesting approval of a sign program for an existing office and maintenance facility located on the east side of N. Blaney Avenue, south of Homestead Road. DECISION: On a 4-0 vote, approved ASAC 51,827.1 on the consent calendar, per the findings and conditions contained in the model resolution. INFORMAL REVIEW OF PLANNED DEVELOPMENT USE PERMIT ITEM 2) APPLICATION ASAC 31-U-88 - L. 1 AS DEALERSHIP GROUP Requesting approval of a use permit to convert an existing savings and loan building to general administrative office usage, and to allow outdoor display of automobiles for advertising purposes. The site is located on the southwest corner of Finch Avenue and Stevens Creek Blvd. The project architect, Hollis Logue, Jr., spoke briefly on the proposed changes. Don Lucas, the business owner, also spoke and answered questions from the Committee. ISSUES: - SCB landscaping requirements - Number of building mounted signs - Space frame attachment to building - Vehicle display in courtyard area visible from street CONSENSUS: - Appropriate to implement Stevens Creek Boulevard landscape requirements The landscaping should be done as part of the project, not at a later date. The address of the center shall be included on the new ground sign. 2. Annuals shall be planted around the new ground sign.. ITEM 6) APPL•ICATION ASAC 51,830.1 - CUPERTI__NO BIKE SHOP Requesting approval of modifications to a Planned Development Sign Program for an existing multi -tenant retail center located on the southwest comer of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Imperial Avenue. This item was. continued to. the ASAC agenda of January 23, 1989. ITEM 7) APP .TrATTON ., ASAC 51,832.1 - COLOUR & DESIGN STUDIO (CAFE JAZZ -RESTAURANT) Requesting approval of architecture and signs for an awning entry feature for an existing restaurant facility located on Valley Green Drive, west of De Anza Boulevard. Kathleen Thornton of Colour & Design Studio spoke briefly on the proposed changes to the existing ground sign and the entrance. She and Kathy Purcell, the manager of Cafe Jazz, then answered questions from Committee members. ISSUES: Brightness of luminous entry awning when lit up at night DECISION: On a 5-0., vote, approved ASAC 51,832.1 per the findings and conditions contained in the model resolution with one added condition as follows:. 1. The lighting concept for , the entry awning shall not create glare or distract_ traffic on Valley Green Drive.
