RESOLUTION NO. 893 (MINUTE ORDER)
OF THE ARCHITECTURAL AND SITE APPROVAL COMMITTEE OF THE CITY OF
CUPERTINO TO THE CITY COUNCIL EXPRESSING A STATEMENT OF ENDORSEMENT FOR THE
RETENTION OF THE CALI MILL SITE IN FUTURE TOWN CENTER NORTH DEVELOP-
MENT PLANS. THIS RECOMMENDATION IS MADE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
CONSENSUS OF AN OVERWHELMING EIGHTY-THREE PERCENT MAJORITY OF "CUPERTINO
SCENE" SURVEY RESPONDENTS"WHO' RE:CENTLY':VO'TED".IN' FAVOR, OF'A" PROPOSED.
POLICY WHEREBY THE CITY WOULD ENCOURAGE SUCH PRESERVATION, IF REMODELING
AND UTILIZATION OF THE PRIMARY CALI BUILDINGS ARE DETERMINED TO BE
FEASIBLE.
IT IS RECOGNIZED THAT THE ISSUE OF FEASIBILITY IS CRITICAL.TO ANY
DISCUSSION CONCERNING PRESERVATION OF THE CALI STRUCTURES. THE COMMITTEE
THEREFORE WISHES TO EMPHASIZE.THAT THEIR PHILOSOPHICAL INTEREST IN THIS
MATTER IS NOT LIMITED TO ACTUAL UTILIZATION OF SPACE,WITHIN SUBJECT
BUILDINGS; RATHER, THEY ENDORSE Al'kRE EXPANSIVE CONCEPT BY WHICH THE
VERY PRESENCE OF THESE HISTORIC STRUCTURES IS VIEWED AS AN ASSET AND
POTENTIAL FOCAL POINT FOR TOWN CENTER NORTH.
ACCORDINGLY, THE ARCHITECTURAL AND SITE APPROVAL COMMMITTEE FAVORS A
POLICY STATEMENT IN THIS REGARD TO BE INCORPORATED IN THE LAND USE/
COMMUNITY.'CHARACTER;-:ELEMENT_OF-THE ;GENERAL PLAN.

Architectural and Site Approval Committee of the City of Cupertino, State
