4. Application IIC-51,229.1 - Dennis Burrow requesting approval of
site, architecture, landscaping, lighting and undergrounding of
utilities for 7-Eleven Foodstore, located at the northeast corner
of Foothill Blvd. and Cupertino Road.
The Senior Planning Technician said the applicant's proposal is to
construct a 2,000 sc. ft. convenience ,T.arket :raking use of slump stone
and mission tile roof. A mansard til:� roof will extend around the
front and bot', side elevations. Th„ trash enclosure located at the

Architecture was ds.scussed next. Mr. Burrow said the building Architecture
materials are the same as on the 7-Eleven F'oodstore on South Blane,,

There followed a review of the proposed landscaping, Mr. Burrow
said most of the flat, narrow areas will be planted with ivy.
As we get into the raider area, there will be, shrubs. 5prirkleri ng

along the building. No trees are planned at this time,
Member Gatto said he would be willing to trade ,some of the 5-gallon
shrubs for one -gallon shrubs and get some trees in there. He.
felt there could be five trees along the perimeter. The applicant
agreed to this
As to the lighting, Mr. Burrow said the lighting will be under the
canopy, shining out. There will be some lights in the parking lctt
and driveway.
'Second, -Vice -Chairman McLaren suggested some provision Abe made for

tendency of children to throw down wrappers, etc. The container{s,
could be architecturally attractive. Member Gatto suggested the

There is a landscape caretaker that comes out twice a week to maintain
the landscaping. There is no automatic sprinklering, according to
Mr. Myers.
Mr. Myers explained there are no windows or doors involved in this
addition to the building; it is an extension of the dress shop
facility. This area previously ;-gas a tiled patio. Member Gatto
noted a 6" offset of the building. Both he and Me-_ber Sargent said
they would prefer to see it 6" back from the front of the existing
building.

Mr. Marty Hess, 10211 Bubb Road, Cupertino, e::plained some of the
architectural treatment. There is a location on the patios for air
conditioning units. They are aware they cannot show on the roof.
In answer to Member Sargent's question, Mr. Hess said the building
pads are about 4" below the street on Homestead.
Mr. Neuman said the landscaping includes ::Zany specir__an olive trees
and shrubs t:roughout the de-.elopment. The trees be located
around tine perimeter of t.Ie clusters and sometimes in the plazas.
They have to maintain a 15' minimum above the flood plain. All streets
and underground utilities will go is at the tirle phase one is built.
Lighting mostly takes place on the sides of the buildings and cannot
be controlled by the individuals. The only free-standing lighting
,gill be in the recreation areas and storage areas.' The ii;Rhts are
turned on and off by Cell. Ti_e - have no plans for a
permanent entry sign. The Planning T,_chnician said, tine electroliers

noted that the landscaping is an improvement. Member Gatto would
like to see more -landscaping; there is an excessive amount of
asphalt here. He'feels the landscaping should be restudied.

The Second Vice -Chairman said that since the Committee has already
covered the architecture, which would be the same as on the previous
application, only the site and landscaping need to be covered at
this time.
The Senior Planning Technlc±an sho,.ed colored slides of the site of
this service station. He said it has been recon:ended by the Engineering
Department to remove the power pole near the pole sign on Stelling Road,
if possible.
The Second Vice -Chairman noted that Key Chevrolet, next door, put
landscaping along their -..est property line. Mr. Kwan said they plan
to re-nove the guard rail and construct concrete bumper guards.
