Member Gatto said th:3re was some tal.'c previously about a hedge along Randy Lane. Mr. Harris said Mr. Swanson is planning to use this area for display so any high hedge would rot be practical. Member Gatto said when it is revie,:,ed, he will be looking very carefully at the change from the "Christmas tree" tyre lighting presently there. It will be enclosed, with a dumpster inside the enclosure, Member Sargent asked if they are planning to have some order to the parking in the rears Mr. Harris said that at the present time, it is random parking but after it is paved it will be striped. Map, Ex, 4) Mr. Robert We Thille,'20803 Alves Drive, Cupertino, was present to discuss the matter. ,The Planning Commission granted a Variance on December 27, 1971, The nroposai to allow the applicant to construct a,fenced storage yard of 8' in height, to be used for storage of equipment and supplies for the organization's Christmas tree sales activities. They chose to locate this enclosure on the property corner in order to con- serve space on their activity field. This 8'-fence will protect` the material within from public view and will also protect it from vandalism and discourage theft. Mr. Thille said he would be surprised if the apartment louse o,.ners would go along with this; ho,,•7ever, he will bring it up with them. Planning Director Sisk said the Planning Cmwnmission directed the staff to check with t .e apartment house o-rners about upgrading this fence, but there has been no conclusive action at this time. Member Gatto asked if there are any plans to soften the look of the if sea of gravel". Mr. Thille said it is suitable for softball. At the present time, there are no p=_ans to change the surface materials. The present surface matErials are to keep it usable when wet. Member Gatto asked about the shedding of the leaves of the liquic a-i'Dar possibly creating. a problem with the ne'_ghbots. Mr. Tagg said there is a fence there. The neighbors will see the tops of the ..ars but not the bumpers. The fence is 1 x 8 redwood spaced on 5' centers. lir. Tagg 'said they have engaged the same landscape architect that did the last three projects. Vice -Chairman Adams asked for co=,ia.is from the audience. There were none. Lighting ;gas discussed next. This type of request is covered -under Section 6,16 Subdivision Site Signs in the Sign Ordinance, How- ever, the.applicant°s project is not considered a subdivision. There is no other applicable section in the Ordinance. For this reason,, the applicant has applied for an exception. Member McLaren had no objection to this proposal,, with the traffic on Wolfe Road and Stevens Creek Blvd. Vice -Chairman Adams asked about how long, these signs would be up Mr. Tagg thought about 10 months would be long enough. The windowsand entrance doors will be arched In answer to Vice -Chairman Adams' question, Mr, .Raich said they anticipate service type businesses such as insurance companies, etc., as tenants. Member Gatto asked about the trash disposal plan. Mr. Raich said they will have a roll -out type trash container. Vice -Chairman Adams asked what is beneath the soffitt. Mr. Raich said there will be flush lighting on redwood boards. There will be 12' of planting along Highway 9 and Kirwin Lane, Member McLaren asked if they could put some landscaping around the trash enclosure, Mr. Raich said they need that area for parking. After some dis- cussion, Mr. Raich agreed to move the trash enclosure slightly and put in a planter. Electric and gas meters are inside the building, although they project somewhat outside the building. They are proposing six outside light standards 13'7°f with a`2' Lighting base They shine down so there should be no problem with the neighbors. They can shield the lights across the back. Mr.-Raich said the reason for the lights outside is to light the landscaping; and to help people reach their cars„ Member Gatto said thel'ight' ing should be the minimum for security purposes and a minimum of 8' high, He feels the service station lighting will spill over onto this parking lots Vice -Chairman Adams' asked for comments from the audience. The sign will be double- faced, plastic, and internally illuminated. The sand finished metal pylon will be painted to match the concrete on the building. Tenant signs will be 2' x 4', and will remain blank until their respective building is occupied. The Planning Technician said this is within the Sign Ordinance. Member Sargent asked where they are going to put the American Flag. Mr. Raich said if they put it up, it will be going adjacent to the ground sign. The Planning Technician quoted Section 5 of the Sign Ordinance relating to moving sign surfaces. Vice -Chairman Adams asked for comments from the audience. Mr. Tagg said he would like to see the light standard they are proposing to use. After checking the plans, he commented that there will be complaints from the neighbors. This building faces a private road. The building is designed so the offices can be on the second floor and manufacturing down below. At the corner of Bubb and Rosario there will be one flood light on each corner. They are building 93 homes there.
