Re: Hazardous Eucalyptus tree
Trees location: Front Yard
3173 Heritage Valley Drive, San Jose, CA 95148
To Whom It May Concern:
Today, I fully inspected a Eucalyptus tree, located at the above address in the front of
the property.
Size & Shape --
The tree is about 45-50 feet tall and at 4.5 feet above ground (i.e., the breast height) the
trunk circumference is 85 inches, so the diameter is 27.05.
Condition --
The Eucalyptus tree is fairly healthy but poses some concerns and hazards, the first is
being the type of tree that it is, these trees are known for being "fire friendly" with the
gases and oils it gives out from the bark and leaves, they are known for being extremely
combustible along with the bark it sheds. In fact the mercury news named this tree
"unsuitable" and it is in most near by cities, (San Jose, miltpitas for example, along with
liquid amber trees and tulips and some pines). Furthermore, these types of trees also
impact the environment in a different way, they deprive food and shelter sources and
therefore affecting animals and birds. Also, it has 3 codominant stems 8 feet above the
ground (two weak junctures) and it is 5 feet away from the water meter, and these trees
are also known for being very disruptive with their roots.
Replacement:
We will be replacing this Eucalyptus with a more suitable Japanese Maple (36" Box),
once fully matured it shall reach 20-30 feet tall and we will be moving it a few feet to the
right so it wont be too close to the water main along with installing root barriers, to avoid
any future damages.
Recommendation --
There is no realistic remedy for retention, and in my professional opinion this tree poses
multiple hazards. It should be removed for the safety of civilians and surrounding
property and replaced with a more suitable tree.
Sincerely,
Javier Castaneda
