RESOLUTION NO. 9107
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CUPERTINO OPPOSING THE TOBACCO INDUSTRY'S

WHEREAS, Philip Morris has sponsored an initiative that would establish a weak
smoking and tobacco control standard for smoking in public places, restaurants,
workplaces, outdoor places, use and placement of vending machines, advertising and
enforcement; and

ordinances and replace them with the new, weaker standard; and
WHEREAS, Philip Morris has submitted 607,000 signatures to county election
officials around the state, 220,000 more than it needs to qualify the measure for the
November 1994 ballot; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino has recently enacted an ordinance banning
smoking in all public places with limited exceptions in the belief that this will advance
the goals of public health and safety; and
