That up of buildings is not of the standard that we are gettcing One of these days all those buildings will be coming n. That whole corner needs.to be upgraded. The pizza ,lor's signs don't de-,ract appreciably from the aesthetics that whole corner. Mr. Small proposed the Committee go along with this situation, status quo, for six mon"Jis or a year, to see what happens at that corner. He could really see no specific problem caused by this business alone. Mr. Chalman said the si M on the side of the building has at least lit up the corner. Dr. Kowitz felt the whole corner needs reworking. This business does not detract any more from the corner than the rest of the area. He areed to go along with this for six months or so. Mr. Stern agreed'. It is no worse or better than it was. As far as the economics of this are concerned, how long can we expect this situation to go on? Mr. Coppola told the Commit- tee that he has spoken with Mr. Cali, who said it may be within a month, or within a year; there are no definite plans as yet. Moved by Mr. Smal?, seconded by Mr. Stern, to rescind the conditions placed on application 1911 -HC -65, in the Minutes of August 30, 1965; that the Committee recommends the appli- cant be allowed to continue with the signs he presently has erected for six months and the matter will be reviewed again on September 13, 1966. AYES: Messrs. Chalman, Kowitz, Small, Stern, Fitch NAYS: None Motion carried, 5-0 III MINUTES OF THE H -CONTROL COMMITTEE MEETING OF FEB. 18, 1966 This was postponed. IV APPLICATIONS A. Application: 217 -HC -66: Jack-in-the-Box, Inc., 1939 East 111th Street, Oakland, resubmitted for Architectural and Site Control Approval to construct a restaurant between the Urich Oil Service Station and the Red Vest Restaurant on Stevens Creek Blvd. The applicant has requested this item be postponed to the next regular meeting. So moved by Mr. Small, seconded by Mr. Stern. Motion carried, 5-0 B. Application 218 -HC -66: Otsen Signs, 15500 Corinne Drive, Los Gatos, requesting Architectural and Site Control Approval to erect a single -face sign on building and a double -face pole sign for the Angel Diaz building, located at 20311 Stevens Creek Blvd. -2- Mr, Hal Johnston, 1550 Corrine Drive, Los Gatos, said this sign will be located at the new structure on Stevens Creek Blvd., immediately west of Scott Auto. There will be a pole sign and a marquee sign. The signs are made of plexi- glas, are internally illuminated, with no flashing, and are within the perimeters of the Sign Ordinance. Colors will be as listed on the plans, ,The pole sign is 60 sq, ft, and the fascia sign is 23" high and the length of the building. Provision has been made for one street tree. Moved by Mr® Stern, seconded by Mr. Small, to recommend approval of application 218-HC®66, on the basis of the plans submitted for the pole sign in the front and the marquee sign; subject to the 10 standard conditions. Mr. Small asked if there would be landscaping at the base of the sign, It was pointed out that the pole sign will be located in the planting area as indicated on the landscape plans, AYES Messrs, Chalman, Kowitz, Small, Stern, Fitch NAYS None Motion carried, 5-0 V UNFINISHED BUSINESS Mr. Small,asked if we are sending out letters to the appli- cants whole one-year time limit on their Architectural and Site Control approval is running out. The Committee then reviewed the 1964. and 1965 applications to determine who is to get the letters, Moved by Mr. Small, seconded by Mr. Chalman, to advise all applicants whose applications have not been used within the year allowed, that it is cancelled; approval by this Committee is rescinded. Motion carried, The Recording Secretary was instructed letter, which Chairman Fitch dictated, 5-0 to prepare the form VI NEW BUSINESS 1, The new furniture arrangement was approved by the Committee, 2, There was some discussion ;of the growing need for standard conditions applying to service stations® It will either be added as another condition to Exhibit A or will be an in- dependent list called Exhibit B. The Committee will take a close look at service stations before the next meeting end possibly set up some standard conditions at that time, 14e will check with the City Attorney to see What the limit - tions are.
