The Council then approved the "Set by department as fol-

The City Council Budget approved with the addition of
$100.00 for Library Commission to attend a convention in San Francisco.
City Manager's Budget approved with salary adjustments as
recommended by the Council.
City Attorney's Budget approved as submitted.
Planning Commission Budget approved r, submitted.
City Clerk's Budget approved with salary adjustments as
recommended by the City Council.
Engineering Department Budget approved with salary adjust-
ments as recommended by the City Council.
Building Department approved with salary adjustments as
recommended by tie Council.
Police Department budget approved as presented.
Councilman Finch thought that the Police Department should
61ive more attention to traffic control, particularly Highway 9 and
Stevew'Creek Boulevard during the busy peak hours. That patroV ing
of the City could be by- passed for this short pariod of time. The
City Manager was instructed to contact the Sheriff and see what could
be worked out in this regard.

Councilman Dempster asked if the Council is going to dia-
cuss the next item on the agenda, Park Acquisition Program. Councilman
Pinch stated that he felt inasmuch as all of the Council were present
and it was on the agenda and one of the things that we were going to
talk about, that some consideration should be given to this item.
Councilman Benettl stated that his ideas regarding parks
and paric acquisition have changed in the last year. However, he was
strongly in favor of having a central park for Cupertino. Councilman
Dempster agreed with Councilman Benetti, but felt that the City should
work with the School District and develop the unused land that is
prevalent in most every school ground in Cupertino. If this were done
there would be many no_gnborhood parka situated throughout Cupertino.
NO wasn't too sure that a Central Park would be a good idea. He stated
"I visit St. James Park in Ban Jose several times a week and the
characters that assemble in this park, certainly I would not want my
children in an area whe.re they are congregating." "For some reason,
these characters do not got over into school grounds and I am wondering
It we had a Central. Park, if this condition might not develop in
Cupertino.
Councilman Pinch stated that he had worked for two years
on the Recreation Corlssion and helped repare recreation reports.

ing r0ort and one that should be reviewed. This report made some
excellent suggestlana as to how the City could best develop a sound
park acquisition and development program. I thank that this report
should be reviewed and we should have another Beating on it.

that the City Engineer, prepared a sketch and outline of the proJNt
for this contractor and asked his for a bid. The Contractor submitted
a bid of $6,8x2.60. This amount vas considerably in Saco" of the
kegineer's estimate of $4,047.00. John ft&'guas, the a:msr of 2hmm
and Country Shopping Center, vas preparing plane to 60 the off -site
improvements in front of his property on Highway 9 and he vas asked
if he would include in his contract, the installation of thic storm
draim line. with all of the engitesriM expenses paid by Mr. Nbdrlp,es,
we received a bid from McCarthy and Spiesmsn of $3,956.99 for this
part of the project. The City Manager recommended that her. Aodrip se
be permitted to install this line and he would be paid this amount
when the contract was finalized and accepted by the City of Cupertino.
Councilman Benetti moved that Mr. Rodrigues be permitted to
install this line and receive payment of $3,956.99 as recommended by
the City Manager, when the project is accepted by the City. Seconded
by Councilman Dempster.

Councilman 34L1ch 0rought up the matter of Mary Averw and
asked if It might not be advisable to open negotiations with the
School District and Sunnyvale to see if this street could be put
thr=6h. The City Manager me instructed to contact the Sigh School
Distric. and the City of SunaVvale on their feelings regarding their
participation In Nary Avenue. Councilman Dempster requested that
Western Avenue be put on the next Council agenda for Council discussion.
The Council agreed that this matter should be placed on the agenda.
Councilman !inch moved that the meeting be adjourned, se-
