8 Report of city Engineer
1. The City Engineer presented a resolution to the Council
regan ding major City streets. Discussion was held as to whether Sara -
toga<- dkannyvale Road is a City or State street.
Roved by Councilman Dempster that Resolution 642, Selecting
Major City Streets, be adopted, authorising the Mayor and City Clerk to
sign said Resolution; seconded by Councilman Pinch; and unanimously
carried.
2. Mr. Fleming was not present at the meeting per the request
of the Council via a letter from the City Engineer.
It was the feeling of the Council that Mr. Jack Fleming appear
at the next Council meeting to present the items on bh ich he was working
while being retained by the City as engineer; which items area will pend-
ing amd which he ban already been

Mr. Anderson was not present.
D. Report of City Manager
1. The Bethany Baptist Church has requested a five -year time
pertzd to pay the remaining 50% storm drainage fee.
Moved by Councilman Finch that this matter be handled on a
year to year basis, with the Church being g_ -anted a one year extension
now, and again applying for extension one year from the present, and
doist so for a total of five yearly extensions; seconded by Councilman
pegmter.

2. Mr. Storm stated that he has not as yet heard from the State
regoodIna the Planning Consultant.

Committee some type of plan for landscaping, so tl{at the H Control Com-
mittee would know exactly what is meant by landscaping terms.
It was suggested that the City Manager contact.severr.l firms to come
before the H'Conttl Committee to present coats or such a plan. Mr. Storm
is to have three names of such interested parties by the September 3
Council meeting.
It was also suggested that a citizen be approached with regard to
offering his services by joining the H Control Committee to aid in the
landscaping problems that arise.
It was decided that the City Manager try to contact neighboring
nurserymen and arrange their meeting with the H Control Committee at
the Committee's August 28 meeting.
The Mayor brought up the matter or the Portal and Oemco landscap-
ing. He ztated that the number of trees in the parking area of Portal
Is too few.
X UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
A. Miscellaneous
Councilman Saich asked the City Manager about the agreement with
the County on Highway regarding the movement of utiliike. Mr. Storm
answered.as before, that he Tan not heard in reply to his letter.
It was suggeat.ed that if no reply is forthcoming in the near
future the Board of Supervisors could be contacted.
XI NEW BUSINESS:
A. Approval of 1962 -63 Budget, City of %`upertino
Councilman Pinch asked the City Engineer if he has time to pre-
pare a study on street improvements in the City, and the estimated cost
of repairing such streets. The City Engineer stater that the work load
is such that this can nc: be accomplished at the present time.
Councilman Finch, when advised rt%t nothing could be done unt'l
November, stated that some areas need a`tention before the winter rarmm
start.
Discussion was held on the storm drainage Fwbleme in the City-
Councilman Finch stated he was in favor or making seam etas% ve
the civic center site now.
Councilman Dempster suggested receiving a rsOsat ea 9 Or ` -Mama
sites, or the Councilman themselves looking for sass sates,.

The Mayor fdlt that a date should be set up for review of the
County Water Program: September 11, 1962 was decided upon as such date.
Someone from the Cd ®ty will be contacted to present the mechanics and
Intent of this program on September 11. All Commissions will be notified
and notice will be put in the newspaper advising the citizens of such
date and location.
