Mr. Earl G. Troyer, LTB Associates, stated this building will be
completely air conditioned; a high level of humidity control and
temperature control is essential. They will be using piped in
oxygen, nitrogen and deionized water. The building has two
exhaust systems: acid and solvent installations. The mechanical
equipment will be installed to the rear of the building, enclosed
within a concrete block wall. An extension of the roof of the
building will cover this area. This building is designed speci-
fically so they can expand quickly.
In answer to Chairman Irwin's question, Mr. Troyer said there is
no raw stock, just process equipment in the storage area. The
appurtenances on the roof will be screened so they will not be
visible from, the second story of the proposed building on the
adjacent property.
The building will be fully sprinklered on both floors and in the
mechanical area. The fume scrubber matter has not been resolved
as yet; a horizontal scrubber will produce 35% efficience and a
vertical scrubber will produce 85% efficiency.
Chairman Irwin was concerned about the proximity of this building
with the nearby residential area. It was pointed out the first
building, Phase One, is closest to Homestead Road and the building
closest to the residential area will be an office building.
Mr. Ward stated the condition of the Use Permit in regard to
access to the school site, if it is developed as such. If it is
not a school, they are reserving from Mark Systems and Intersil,
easements for 40' dedication to the City, which will be held in
reserve to service future tenants to the rear.
Mr. Ward explained that the Halpr3 overall landscape plan calls
for a row of trees. a 5' berm and 301 of landscaping along
Homestead Road and 20' of landscaping along Tantau Avenue.
There will be no parking in the front.
Mr. Michael Cabak, Design Engineer with Johnson and Mape Con-
struction Company, said the building will off-white or beige
slump stone masonry with concrete columns and a cantilever roof
overhang. The building will be 18' high, with a 5' or 6' shield
around the roof appurtenances. There will be a timber roof
structure, and wood panel decoration around the windows.
Comm. Aguilar asked how the flat roof compared with the other
buildings in Vallco Park. It was established that the Varian
building is flat-topped.
Mr. Ward explained that all buildings are thoroughly checked by
the Vallco Architectural Review Board. He said a policy has been
established whereby Vallco's tenants' plans are checked by one-
another to ensure compatibility.

Comm. Pitch asked if Intersil has plans for their signs. Mr.
Troyer said they have not been determined as yet. They will
have something in good taste, that will be compatible with
others in Vallco Park.
Comm. Kowitz asked about exterior lighting adjacent to the
residential area. It was noted that only the Phase One.. building
is being considered at this time. The Inter-City Agreement with
Santa Clara must also be taken into consideration. The north
boundary is an easement to the parking lot.
Comm. Fitch asked about the quality of the private street. Mr.
Ward said it will meet the City of Cupertino roadway standards.
Moved by Comm. Fitch., seconded by Comm. Aguilar, to recomend
approval of application 284-Hc-67 to the City Council., per the
following conditions.o
1. Per the general layout of Phase One.
2. The building in Phase One only.
3. Landscaping and signs to be submitted for consideration at a
later date.
