Dennis Burrow, 644 University Avenue, Los Gatos; requesting approval of the landscaping for the 7 - 11 store at 20455 Silverado Avenge. Mr. Mike McGuire, Zone Manager for Southland Corporation, represented the applicant and introduced Mr. Dick Barns, the Operations Manager for the 7 - 11 stores. Chairman Small reiterated that the Committee members had insisted upon talking to a representative of Southland Corporation in an attempt to solve the numerous problems encountered with 7 - 11 stores. He continued to enumerate some of the problems such as the overabundance of sign displays, ice machines in front of the stores, the general appearance of the store itself and its debried surroundings, non-existence of garbage containers and landscaping and continued violation of the sign Ordinance. Mr. McGuire asserted that his company was most anxious to cooperate in whatever was needed, that the ice machines could not be placed in the store itself for lack of space, that the ice machines were good sources of revenue and could not be deleted, that the excessive number of signs was necessitated by the six -week long, once -a -year promotion of "Slurpees", and that some of the problems stemmed from misunderstandings. He cited the example of the flashing "Food Store" sign, maintaining that the advertising agency had misinterpreted his company's directives. Mr. McGuire insisted that his company would do anything to prevent any cooper- unpleasant occurences as they are solicitously desiring to become a ation part of the community, and asked that the Committee make suggestions offered for a more efficient and effective operation. • 11 E A Minutes of H Control July 10,:1968 2907HC-68 count 'd After.considerable discussion on.the. subject, Member Fitchmoved ghat the ice machines not beplacedon the. .putsidelof the buildings but, either:61a the sides, as suggested by this Committee's recommendation for approval of the Homestead Road store, or within the confines of the ,building.'and :that I no dispensing machines of:anytype-bo.cpermittedl in front of the building..
