RESOLUTION NO. 3613
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO
OPPOSING TilE .JANUARY 18, 1974 ACTIO¡'; OF THE PUBLIC
UTILITIES COHHlSSION (DECISION 1182358) IN EXTENDING THE
HOURS OF OPERATION FOR OUTDOOR AND \oJINDOW DISPLAY LIGHT-
ING AND BILLBOARD LIGHTING
WHEREAS, people are being asked to accept cold, darkness and inconvenience
in their homes, schools and places of employment; and
vlliEREAS, people are being asked to limit their driving and gas consumption;
and
WHEREAS, school children are being asked to go to school in early morning
darkness; and
~~EREAS, public utilities have stated that there exist possible future power
blackouts; and
WlIEREAS, recent unemployment statistics show a significant increase in
unemployment, all of the above due to the energy shortage; and
\lliEREAS, the Cupertino City Council believes that the safety, comfort and
employ.llent of people transcend the alleged "discrimination" against the California
Electric Sign Association and the California State Outdoor Advertising Association;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Cupertino City Council strongly opposes
the January 18, 1974 acti0n of the Public Utilities Cowmission (Decision #82358) in
ext~nding the hours of operation for outdoor arld window display lighting and
billboa.rd lighting and urges the P.U.C. to reconsider said decision.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be sent to the P.U.C.,
Senators Alfred Alquist, Clark Bradley, Assemblymen Richard Hayden, John Vasconcellos
and Alister HcAlister, San Jose Hercllry-News, Palo Alto Times, Cupertino Courier
and Sunnyvale-Cupertino Valley Journal.
