justification stmt_6.pdfJuly 16, 2018 Benjamin Fu CITY OF CUPERTINO PLANNING DEPT. 10300 Torre Avenue Cupertino, CA 95014 Re: Director's Temporary Use Permit for Food Truck Service at the Infinite Loop Campus Dear Mr. Fu: Thank you for taking the time to discuss our proposal for a Temporary Use Permit to allow food trucks at the Infinite Loop (IL) Campus. As discussed, Apple intends to renovate the Caffe Macs located in the IL04 building as part of the overall campus tenant improvements. With the cafe closure during the permitting and construction period, employees will not have access to onsite food service; they will need to either utilize the Alves Caffe Macs located approximately one mile to the south or drive to other locations during peak AM and noon hours when streets are heavily congested. To minimize the number of vehicles on the road and in an effort to provide convenient dining options for our employees, we propose to contract with food truck vendors to provide breakfast and lunch service at the IL Campus during renovation activities. Similar to Caffe Macs, the food trucks would offer employees the option to purchase their meals onsite. This service will not be open to the general public. The food trucks will be located deep within the IL Campus where visibility is limited from public streets and there will be no signs advertising the food truck service onsite. As part of the Temporary Use Permit, we propose the use of up to six food trucks for breakfast and the same six food trucks for lunch. Initially there may be fewer trucks in the morning than during the lunch hours; however, trucks providing breakfast service will stay through lunch. A change in trucks between breakfast and lunch service is not anticipated. The trucks will be located behind IL03 away from residential uses and will access the site via the western leg of Infinite Loop. An accessible path of travel for pedestrians is available from each building through the quad and to the food truck area. Dining/seating areas will be located within the campus quad. Approximately 78 parking stalls will be displaced during the term of the Temporary Use Permit. However, the majority of IL02 and IL03 will be vacant during this time as well as the entire IL04 building; therefore, there will be more than adequate parking available for the site. During inclement weather, the use of canopies may be needed in the area of the food trucks and quad eating areas. A map of the proposed layout is attached, with a summary of the proposed use outlined below. Number of Trucks: Up to 6 Duration: Up to 6 months, with possibility of an extension of time Hours: Breakfast (7AM to 11AM); Lunch (11AM to 2PM) Location: Parking lot between IL03 and Interstate 280 We hope to complete construction work on the IL04 Caffe Macs within six months of permit issuance. However, an extension of time for the food truck service may be needed in the event of unexpected delays. Thank you again for your consideration of our request.
