JOINT MEETING OF' CITY COUNCIL Ah~ PLANNING COMMISSION
APRIL 23, 1958
Councilmen Present: Lazaneo, Meyerholz, Nathanson, Pelosi, Saich
Councilmen Absent: None
Commissioners Present: Bell, Cali, Fischer, Leonard, Neilsen
Commissioners Absent: None
The Mayor said it has been suggested that the Planning Commission
be enlarged from five to seven members. Absentees cause unnecessary
delays due to the rezoning clause in the Planning Commission Ordin-
ance, With a membership of seven, five affirmative votes can be
reQuired to recommend rezoning.
Mr. Anderson said that the law permits a Planning Commission of
seven plus two ex officio members to sit without vote. Councilman
Lazaneo asked the status of the two planners that might be appointed
now or at the next regular meeting as to when they could vote and
whether they could sit at the meetings without a vote until the
ordinance making their appointment possible becomes official.
Mr, Leonard, Chairman of the Planning Commission, agreed that
the Commission could use two new members, After some discussion it
was decided to enact the ordinance through the regular procedure
rather than emergency but nominate the two new members at the first
reading of the ordinance with their apPointment becoming official
when the ordinance is effective. The Mayor authorized the City
Attorney to prepare an ordinance providing for a seven man Planning
Commission,
The Mayor referred to the Citizens Committee, just appointed,
and called for protection against annexations along the boundaries,
He said it is necessary to study the facilities needed to attract
industry. and annexation areas. First meeting was called for Thursday
April 24.
