ROLL CALL: Councilmen Present: Councilmen Absent Others Present Jewett, Pelosi, Saich, Lazaneo Benetti Çity ~Ĺ“nager, City Attorney, City Engineer Mayor Lazaneo stated the purpose of the meeting was to have Mr. Jess Black, Assistant District Engineer, Division of Highways, explain the various interchanges that would effect the City of Cupertino ,¡¡raffie in relation to the proposed freeways, i.e, Junipero and Stevens Creek Freeway. The Mayor requested Mr, Black, before he proceeded with his dis- cussion, to inform the Council of the proposed interchanges at Homestead Road and Stevens Creek Freeway, The Highway Department had requested an amendment to the agreement submitted May 19, 1958 requesting the elimination of two entrance lanes for westbound traffic On Stevens Creek Freeway, After Resolution Route 114. it was outlined by Mr, Black, Councilman Saich moved that 482 be approved, eliminating two access roads pertaining to Seconded by Councilman Jewett. A YES: NOES: ABSENT: Councilmen: Councilmen: Councilmen: Jewett, Pelosi, Saich, Lazaneo None Benetti MOTION CARRIED: 4-0 Following Mr. Black's explanation of the interchanges, there was considerable discussion, particularly regarding Highway 9 diamond inter- change, as opposed to a cloverleaf. It was the concensus of the Council and several people in the audience that the City would be better served by a cloverleaf, Mayor Lazaneo asked Mr, Black what the City could do about present- ing the Highway Engineer with a future development program for the area that would be served by the proposed Highway 9 interchange. Could we have one or two or three months? Mr. Black said that the plans were on the drawing board now and that he could not answer directly to what the State Engineer would agree, Mayor Lazaneo asked could we have two months? he would contact the officials and submit a letter Highway Engineer'S answer to the question. Councilman Pelosi requested that the City receive from the Highway Department, a traffic count on El Monte Road.
