TR-2017-25 Arborist Report.pdfDJkVEY e THE DAVEY TREE EXPERT CO. June 13, 2017 Ms. Shashawna Ball Association Manager Commons of Cupertino Homeowners Association c/o Community Management Services 1935 Dry Creek Rd., Suite 203 Campbell, CA 95008 Re: Dead white birch tree #288 and dead Norway maple tree #147 Dear Ms. Ball, 1055 Commercial Court San Jose, CA 95112 (408)453-3389 (408) 453-2940 - Fax CA License 41694001 At the request of Del Carson, association Board President, I was asked to evaluate two trees that are located on the grounds of the Commons of Cupertino. The evaluation was done from the ground and the trees were not climbed. Two photographs (Photo 1 and 2) are provided as visual aids in the discussion of the trees. A portion of the site map is included with the trees highlighted in yellow. The Commons of Cupertino is approximately 40 years old. I have been involved as an arborist on the property since 2002. 1 did a tree inventory and analysis that year which included numbering and evaluating each tree located in the common area. The trees have been maintained on a regular basis since 2002 and the majority of them are in good to very good health. However, over the last five years the drought has killed several trees that are susceptible to high temperatures and a lack of water. Tree #147 is a Norway maple (Acer platanoides) tree that is located on Alves Drive and behind 21055 Freedom Drive (Photo 1). The trunk measures 11.8 inches in diameter at a height of four and one half feet above ground line. The tree is growing on a slope that is about 45 degrees. The tree has been in poor health for years and it died towards the end of last year. I do not recommend planting another tree in its place due to the slope of the surface. Tree #288 is a European white birch (Betula pendulo) tree that is located next to 21115 Freedom Drive (Photo 2). The trunk measures 6.5 inches in diameter at a height of four and one half feet above ground line. This tree has also been in poor health for years. This tree can be replaced with another tree.
