RESOLUTION 66
OF THE DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO:
1) APPROVING A DIRECTOR'S REFERRAL OF A DESIGN FOR A MONUMENT SIGN, AND
2) DENYING A DESIGN FOR ILLUMINATED WALL SIGN CABINETS FOR AN EXISTING
OFFICE BUILDING AT 20425 STEVENS CREED BOULEVARD
SECTION I: PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Application No.: 21-DIR-01
Applicant: Steve Peterson (California Sign)
Location: 20425 Stevens Creek Boulevard
SECTION IIA: FINDINGS FOR APPROVAL OF MONUMENT SIGN
WHEREAS, the Design Review Committee of the City of Cupertino received a Director's Referral for
design approval of a monument sign, as described in this Resolution; and
WHEREAS, the Design Review Committee finds that the changes are beneficial and compatible with
the surrounding area;
1. The proposal, at the proposed location, will not be detrimental or injurious to property or
improvements in the vicinity, and will not be detrimental to the public health, safety, general
welfare, or convenience;
2. That the two lines of text on the monument sign describing the business services are excessive and
not consistent with the design criteria articulated in Section 17.24.180 of the sign code, and the
deletion of this text makes the sign consistent with the sign ordinance.
SECTION IIB: FINDINGS FOR DENIAL OF TWO ILLUMINATED CABINET WALL SIGNS
WHEREAS, the Design Review Committee of the City of Cupertino received a Director's Refferal for
design approval of two illuminated cabinet wall signs, as described in this Resolution; and
WHEREAS, the Design Review Committee finds that the changes are not beneficial and not
compatible with the surrounding area;
1. The proposal, at the proposed location, will be detrimental or injurious to property or
improvements in the vicinity, and will be detrimental to the general welfare, or convenience;
2. That the style of wall signage is outdated and typical of older commercial strip centers and not of
modern office buildings.
3. That approval of the proposed signage will set a poor precedent for future signage along the Heart
of the City corridor.
