EDC 06-18-03 City of Cupertino Economic Development Committee Regular Meeting June 18,2003 1. CALL TO ORDER At 8:09 a.m. Carol Atwood called themeeting to order in Conference Room A, 10300 Torre Avenue, Cupertino. 2. ROLL CALL City Staff: Carol Atwood, Steve Piasecki, Dorothy Steenfott Chamber: Jody Hansen, Orrin Mahoney, Gilbert Wong City Council: Sandra James Absent: David Knapp, Richard Lowenthal, Mark McKenna, Ralph Qualls Guest: James Brown, Durect 3. NEW BUSINESS A. Presentation by Dr. James E. Brown, Durect Dr. Brown gave a very informative presentation about Durect's products and systems. He stated that Durect is in the business of developing products and systems that allow medical patients to use specially designed implants to receive medication rather than obtaining it in the hospital. 4. OLD BUSINESS A. Key Development Activity Steve Piasecki updated the committee on recent activity. Carol Atwood extended her thanks to the Chamber of Commerce for stepping forward and recommending approval of Extended Stay America. Sandra James also noted that it was important for the Chamber to be visible at city council meetings. B. Site Visits Jody Hansen requested that this item be discussed at the next committee meeting. c. Cupertino Appreciation Day Carol Atwood reported that James Liu has agreed to sing the National Anthem and Michael Chang will be throwing out the first pitch.
