EDC 01-15-03 5. City of Cupertino Economic Development Committee Regular Meeting January 15, 2003 1. CALL TO ORDER At 8:09 a.m. Carol Atwood called the meeting to order in Conference Room A, 10300 Torre Avenue, Cupertino. 2. ROLL CALL City Staff: Carol Atwood, David Knapp, Steve Piasecki, Dorothy Steenfott, Chamber: Jody Hansen, Orrin Mahoney, Mark McKenna City Council: Richard Lowenthal Absent: Keith Dias, Sandra James, Ralph Qualls Guest: Randol Mackley, Retail Real Estate Group 3. NEW BUSINESS A. Local Developer Presentation Randol Mackley, Retail Real Estate Group, updated the committee on Cupertino's status in the retail market. He stated that Cupertino's advantages are good discretionary income, low crime, high growth quality, and a well educated and diverse population. He suggested that the city introduce a residential component to Vallco and that the mall should be different from Valley Fair and Stanford. He suggested that the city take a creative, new approach to revitalize Vallco. 4. NEW BUSINESS A. Key Development Activity Steve Piasecki reported on several large projects. He stated that Extended Stay America was continued to the January 27 Planning Commission meeting and the Target project is now on hold until after the Crossroads streetscape is determined. The Blaney/Stevens Creek project is expected to open in the spring. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 9:35 a.m.
