EDC 08-21-02 City of Cupertino Economic Development Committee Regular Meeting August 21, 2002 1. CALL TO ORDER At 8:07 a.m. Carol Atwood called the meeting to order in Conference Room A, 10300 Torre Avenue, Cupertino. 2. ROLL CALL City Staff: Carol Atwood, David Knapp, Steve Piasecki, Ralph Qualls, Dorothy Steenfott Chamber: Keith Dias, Jody Hansen, Orrin Mahoney, Mark McKenna City Council: Sandra James Guest: Planning Commissioner Gilbert Wong Absent: Richard Lowenthal 3. OLD BUSINESS A. Key Development Activity Steve Piasecki reported that the development report is being updated more rapidly on the website to make it a more "real time" report. He also stated that the Market Place has laid the foundation for the first building. B. Outreach Action Plan Carol Atwood distributed an updated plan to the committee. She stated that she would like to see the City be more proactive in the business community and requested that committee members volunteer for several of the openings on the plan. Carol will provide the committee with an information sheet that can be used at the site visits and assign members to any further openings. C. Cupertino Appreciation Day Carol reported that the event was successful. She indicated that tickets should be available at the event for residents who may not receive tickets before the game date. D. Chamber Business Report Jody Hansen reported that the chamber is organizing a hotel/restaurant council and that a bilingual brochure is being developed for the Asian American Council. MISCELLANEOUS COMMITTEE UPDATES Carol Atwood reported that City Council approved to have vendors pay a prorated business license fee for events held in the City, She stated that this would provide more equity between local businesses that pay for a business license and businesses that come into the City for weekly events such as the Farmer's Market and annual special events, 5.
