EDC 10-16-02 City of Cupertino Economic Development Committee Regular Meeting October 16, 2002 1. CALL TO ORDER At 8:10 a.m. Carol Atwood called the meeting to order in Conference Room A, 10300 Torre Avenue, Cupertino. 2. ROLL CALL City Staff: Carol Atwood, David Knapp, Steve Piasecki, Dorothy Steenfott, Chamber: Keith Dias, Jody Hansen, Orrin Mahoney, Mark McKenna Guest: Chuck Marsh, The Oaks Shopping Center, Planning Commissioner Gilbert Wong Absent: Sandra James, Richard Lowenthal, Ralph Qualls 3. OLD BUSINESS A. Outreach Action Plan Carol Atwood distributed the assignment list with goals and procedures for the business visits. B. Key Development Activity Steve Piasecki distributed an updated activity report. c. Sign Ordinance Proposal Update Jody Hansen discussed the chamber's efforts to propose a new ordinance that works well for realtors and for the city. She also distributed an updated proposal. D. Chamber Business Report Jody reported that they are conducting a survey on the town center project. 4. NEW BUSINESS A. Presentation by Chuck Marsh - The Oaks Shopping Center Chuck gave a brief history of the center as to leasing, including the Andronicos' deal that fell through. He said that the center comprises 70,000 square feet of space and that it is very difficult to rent the space in the back. Togo's and Cold Stone are doing well, Linda Evans has a long-term lease and just renewed for another 5 years this summer, and the theater is currently on a nominal rent and 90 day lease. Management has approached all high-end grocery stores but no interest exists. Some members of the committee recommended several restaurant possibilities. October 16, 2002 Economic Development Committee Page 2 B. Cupertino Appreciation Day Carol reported that the San Jose Giants have requested that a date be chosen for the 2003 event. The committee selected August 6 as first choice and July 30 as a second choice, 5. MISCELLANEOUS COMMITTEE UPDATES 6. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 a.m.
