SUBJECT AND ISSUE
Notification of commission and committee te, ms expiring January 15, 2002, and selection of
application deadhnes and interview dates before Council.
BACKGROUND
There are eight commissions and committees created by ordinance of the Cupertino City
Council. M=mbers serve staggered, four-year terms, and there is a two-t~uu limit for each
commission. If a person is appointed to fill an unscheduled vacancy, that partial term is not
counted against.the t~lm hmit.
Terms expire on January 15 each year, and information about the upcoming vacancies is
disseminated beginning in November. Recruitment, appointment, and reappointment are
governed by Resolution No. 8828.
The following chart lists the group's name and the names of any commissioners whose te,us
will expire in January 2002. An asterisk indicates commissioners who have reached a term limit.
The vacancies will be announced in the November issue of the Cupertino Scene, and notices will
be placed in local newspapers, on cable television and posted in City Hall and at the Cupertino
Library. Notice will als0 be sent to the Chamber of Commerce, service organizations, 5Cs,
Leadership Cupertino, and CERT graduates.
Any individuals who have filed applications within the last year will also be advised of the
vacancies and may activate their applications.
Council sets a deadline for any eligible incumbent to apply for re-appointment. Non-incumbents
may also file during that time. The application period is extended if an incumbent has not
applied by the first published deadline. During the extended period only non-incumbents may
apply. In cases where an incumbent is not eligible to reapply, the extended deadline applies.
