EDC 03-18-98 City of Cupertino Economic Development Committee Regular Meeting March 18, 1998 1. CALL TO ORDER At 7:38 a.m. Carol Atwood called the meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall, 10300 Torre Avenue, Conference Room A, Cupertino. 2. ROLLCALL City Staff: Carol Atwood, Don Brown, Bob Cowan, Steve Dowling, Dorothy Steenfott, Bert Viskovich Chamber: Donna Lawler City Council: Sandy James, John Statton Absent: Tom Hall 3. NEW BUSINESS A. Economic Development Committee Contacts Carol Atwood reported that an updated phone list of committee members was included in the agenda packet. 4; OLD BUSINESS A. Status of Key Development Bob Cowan reported that Tandem is considering a long-term application. He also stated that the Market Place is considering an expansion to a two story building and revising the landscaping. Corporate Contact Updates B. Steve Dowling reported that he spoke with the manager of Sears, Mark Adamson. Steve stated that Sears is hoping to expand by 35,000 square feet to add a home life store and that the expansion should produce $6 million in additional revenue each year. Sandy James reported that Sun Micro is not interested in meeting with the City at this time. She also stated that McWhorters is ready to move on July 1 and a meeting with Cupertino Village is being scheduled. Don Brown distributed correspondence he received from the Attorney General's office regarding Valleo. He stated that the settlement agreement is being amended to include Valleo. Don also stated that he is still optimistic that positive changes will be taking place at Vallco soon. Carol Atwood reported that she had invited the Penney's manager, Jim Kegley to Rotary. She stated that Jim feels very positive that the Jacobs Group will be able to make changes at Valleo. Donna Lawler and Sandy James agreed to work with the manager of the Shane Company. Key Project Updates Bob Cowan and Bert Viskovich reported that they met for a brainstorming session to consider possible incentives that could be given to property owners to upgrade their centers. 5. MISCELLANEOUS COMMITTEE UPDATES John Statton reported that Linda Asbury will be the new Chamber director and will be joining the Economic Development Committee. 6. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 a.m.
