City of Cupertino Economic Development Committee Regular Meeting December 16, 1998 CALL TO ORDER At 7:35 a.m. Carol Atwood called the meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall, 10300 Torre Avenue, Conference Room A, Cupertino. ROLLCALL City Staff: Carol Atwood, Don Brown, Bob Cowan, Steve Dowling, Dorothy Steenfott Chamber: Linda Asbury, Bill Jones, Donna Lawler City Council: Wally Dean, Sandra James Absent: Paula Davis, John Statton, Bert Viskovich 3. OLD BUSINESS A. Status of Key Development Activity Bob Cowan reported that Macy's is now open and doing well. He also stated that a redevelopment proposal is being prepared for the Jacobs Group and that Dillards is still being pursued. B. Corporate Contacts Bill Jones reported that he and Sandra James toured the new Hilton Garden Inn and the Shane Company. He stated that both visits went well and that Hilton Gardenlnn will be having its grand opening after the suites are completed. Carol Atwood reported that she met with Rational Software. She stated that they have a 10 year lease on the building and that Cupertino is the firm's corporate headquarters. 4. MISCELLANEOUS COMMITTEE UPDATES Carol Atwood reported on a Joint Venture survey regarding economic development. The survey showed that half of the cities conduct site visits, have incentive plans, and have recognition programs in place. About half of the cities have programs related to attraction. Permit streamlining was greatly valued for cities that have done it. The survey also showed that community outreach is not a high priority for other municipalities. 6.
