DRC 05-05-04 Design Review Committee May 5, 2004 Cupertino, CA 95014 (408) 777-3308 AMENDED MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE HELD ON MAY 5, 2004 ROLL CALL Committee Members present: Gilbert Wong, Chairperson Marty Miller, Commissioner Committee Members absent: None Staff present: Gary Chao, Assistant Planner Ciddy Wordell, City Planner APPROVAL OF MINUTES: April 21, 2004 Minutes of the April 21, 2004 Design Review Committee were approved. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: Letter from Ruth Holthers regarding 10141 Lebanon Drive. POSTPONEMENTSjREMOV AL FROM CALENDAR: ORAL COMMUNICATION: None CONSENT CALENDAR: None PUBLIC HEARING: 1. Application: Applicant: Location: R-2004-11 Dick Fang (Kang residence) 10141 Lebanon Drive Residential Design Review of a new two-story 4,571 square foot residence and an exception for a 40% ratio of second floor to first floor area. 2 Design Review Committee May 5, 2004 Design Review Committee decision final unless appealed. Staff Presentation: Gary Chao, Assistant Planner, briefly described the project. Staff recommends approval. A letter was submitted expressing concern that the home would be a monster home. Mr. Chao also explained that the findings in the resolution had been changed. Mr. Wong asked Mr. Chao to summarize the changes in the findings. Dick Fang, designer, stated that he was not building the maximum allowed size home. Mr. Fang also discussed the setbacks and the architectural style. Carola Elliott, 10128 Lebanon Drive, stated that she was concerned about the two street trees. She does not want to see them removed. Mr. Chao stated that according to the plans the trees are on the applicant's property would be preserved. Mr. Chao further clarified that these two trees are not protected trees and the applicant would have the right to remove them. Mr. Fang stated that they are preserving the trees. Mr. Miller requested an additional condition to retain the trees in front of the house. MOTION: Commissioner Miller moved to approve R-2004-11 with the added condition to retain the trees in front of the house. Chairperson Wong None None 2-0 SECOND: ABSENT: ABSTAIN: VOTE: 2. Application Applicant: Location: EXC-2004-04 (ASA-2004-08) Mike Rohde (Dynasty Restaurant) 10123 Wolfe Road Sign Exception for an exterior sign at Valko Fashion Park. Design Review Committee decision final unless appealed Staff Presentation: Ciddy Wordell, City Planner, briefly described the project. Mr. Wong asked if staff was ok with the color scheme and if the sign was a neon sign. Ms. Wordell stated that staff was ok with the color scheme and the sign was channel lighting and the lighting is behind. Ms. Wordell explained that upon further review, the application is for architectural and site approval, not a sign exception. 3 Design Review Committee May 5, 2004 MOTION: SECOND: ABSENT: ABSTAIN: VOTE: Commissioner Miller moved to approve ASA-2004-08.
