Intent
Our intent in developing these standards is five-fold:
• To provide basic guidelines to tenants and potential tenants so that they can make
appropriate signage proposals to the building owner and/or the City of Cupertino.
• To help tenants develop signs that easily identify their businesses to both pedestrians
and auto drivers.
• To encourage signs that enhance the visual and aesthetic character of the building and
neighborhood.
• To encourage signs that are architecturally integrated with the building.
General provisions
No sign shall be allowed that does not meet the criteria described below. Otherwise, a!I criteria
stated in the City of Cupertino Signage Ordinance shall apply.
All signs must be approved by the building owner.
Allowable signs
Allowable sign types/structures: face signs (any sign painted or as an integral unit or as
individual words, letters or figures located approximately parallel with the face of the building).
Examples of allowable face signs incfude professionally painted signs (in approved colors), pin-
mounted letter signs, tile signs, wood letter signs, metal letter signs (non pin-mounted) and
plastic letter signs that are not internaily lit. Sign lighting to be reviewed & approved by owner.
Sign colors: In keeping with the color and style of the building, subdued sign colors are
preferred. These colors include, but are not limited to, black, gray, mustard, dark green, dark
blue, wine red, rust, and earth tones.
Prohibited colors: Fluorescent colors.
Sign areas: With the exception of temporary window signs, all signs must fit into the allowable
area stated in the City of Cupertino Signage Ordinance.

Signs requiring specia/permission of owner. fin or biade signs (also called "projecting signs")
and awning signs may be allowed with special permission by the building owner.
Monument Sign: Double face internally illuminated (florescent) tenant display. Tenant panels to
have an opaque dark brown vinyl background with white cut-out letters. Panel sizes are 10" x
93" visible opening. Otherwise, all criteria stated in the City of Cupertino Signage Ordinance
shall apply. Size and location per submittal.
All signs require review by building owner's architect and approval by building owner.
